Description Suggest change

The Juniper Pass Crags are located above Evergreen, close to Mount Evans. At approximately 11,000 feet, they offer some respite from the summer heat of Denver/ Boulder. In a beautiful, sub-alpine setting, these seldom climbed crags contain sport and mixed routes on mostly solid stone. However, it is an alpine environment and one should anticipate the usual lichen and occasional loose rock. As always, a helmet and good attitude is recommended.

Getting There Suggest change

Travel I-70 west, leaving Denver. Take the Evergreen Parkway (exit 252) and travel south just past Bergen Park. Turn west on Squaw Pass Road (CR 103) towards the Echo Mountain Ski Area (11.7 miles). Travel this road past the ski area to the Juniper Pass Forest Service picnic area (4th picnic area on the left) 4 miles further. Park approximately 0.3 miles past the picnic area on the left side of the road in an obvious pull-out. Facing South, the crags are to the left and a little bit below you. You can actually go 0.1 miles east along the road to a tiny pullout-ish spot, then go left and up a slight bump and then down to the crag. If you find yourself at Echo Lake, you've driven too far.

If you go from Echo Lake's intersection with CR 103 (Squaw Pass Road), you travel 1.5 miles to the pullout. Then, walk 0.1 miles east to the pullout-ish spot, go southeast up a slight incline and then down to the crag.

Walk into the woods looking for cairns to mark the way. Trend to the left left and down. The walk takes about 5 minutes.

Note, with the abundant shotgun shells cleaned up here and nearby, expect that some folks treat this as an outdoor shooting range.
