Ammon McNeely joins Dope Miller Equipment as Ambassador

I have some top secret information:

He was tasered because of the sport route in RMNP.

I can't explain why right now.

They're coming.......

Back off T-dog and Loophole! You're both obviously TOOL! Ammon's a pirate! I'm sure he's a much better person than either of you! Some day climbing will be illegal, just like peeing in the woods.

"The rangers don't just go around tasing people for no reason. "

Loophole, you've clearly never spent any time in Yosemite Valley. Ammon is not particularly low profile, but throwing a guy in jail for a victimless non-crime is pretty much the norm there.

I dont like any authority figure... Anarchy is where its at, I dont care if its illegal to BASE in Yosemite, it shouldnt be, I dont care what any of you "follow the rules for the good of humankind" "the government needs to hold my hand and show me the way" kind of people think, the second someone tells me I cant jump off a rock, I say go fawk yourself and jump anyway too.

Long live those who chart their own course off the map. There be monsters... or rangers with tasers.

Good grief! After reading the posts on Supertopo I can understand why some climbers have problems with authority. I have never seen more asinine assumptions, etc. in my life. One knucklehead keeps calling a taser a "lethal weapon". They keep saying the other base jumper who drowned was "killed by the rangers". Holy cow!

I repeat. I bet Ammon is handling this better than the fools posting in his "defense". Hats off to him for having the gonads to pull this stunt off. However, I think something must have gone wrong with the exit plan for him to get tased. After seeing the idiocy exhibited by some people in that other forum I just shake my head in disgust.

If the facts come out that Ammon was standing there complying and not resisting in any way(which includes running or walking away), I will post just as vociferously in his defense. But to make the leap that basejumping=tasing and the rangers suck, blah, blah, blah, based on a one line story is laughable.

I'm not going to look up the info, but a guy died in the Denver area in the past year or so from being tased. Just like rubber bullets aren't lethel right? Ask the girl who died in Boston after the Red Sox's won the series. Oh you can't because she died.

So I know I'm getting away from your point so apologies, but before you start calling people names you should make sure your right. Tasers maybe aren't considered lethal, but they sure as hell seem to kill people anyways. Maybe it's a 1% chance, but it'd suck if it were you.

Scott, I understand your point. However, you have just as much a chance of dying if you were tackled and your head hit a rock. Or if you got clubbed on the head with a nightstick. The taser really does reduce the incidence of injury. And, if you are worried that it might kill you, stop and comply.

This isn't Vietnam there are F*ckin rules man. You just can't go around tazin people cause you got a badge. When climbing is outlawed only outlaws will climb. Ammon doesn't deserve to be treated like some kind of undocumented immigrant he's an American we have rights. And we outta have the right to climb up / jump off what ever we want as long as it doesn't effect other peoples rights to enjoy whatever it is that they enjoy doing. Freedom for all. Down with the man, and Don't tread on me!!!!!!!

yes, there are rules. And if the rangers did not follow them I will be the first to condemn them. You are making it sound as if Ammon was standing there minding his own business and he got tazed for the heck of it. All you know is that he based and was tazed. You have no idea what went on and neither do I. Your post is very hypocritical. You start off by saying there are rules and then you imply that rules only apply to the rangers. Ammon broke a rule, is that okay? If not, get THAT rule changed.

True...death and injury come in strange ways...my main concern is the liberal use of "non lethal" forms or restraint.

Overall it's a shame when it happens.

Has anyone asked Ammon what actually happened?

Mike Lane · · AnCapistan · Joined Jan 2006 · Points: 880

They're still waiting for the twitching and drooling to subside

Since he got it in the back of the head/neck, my money would be on him making a run for it. Great thing about tasers, johnny law doesn't have to worry about staying in shape as much.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
