Best Dog-Friendly areas around Yosemite
|
I'm going to be in/around Yosemite August 1st-3rd, and while I'd love to get on some classics in the Valley, I'll have my dog with me, and I know all the regulations in the park would make that virtually impossible. What are the best areas in/around Yosemite to climb and camp if you have a dog with you? I'm not familiar with Tuolumne. Is it as strict there with dogs as the Valley? I'm not even committed to climbing in Yosemite proper, so any suggestions are welcome. This will be on the back end of a trip up though Bishop as well on the way to San Francisco, so anything that I shouldn't miss on the way. |

A quick search of the forums will yield your answer. Your best bet however is leaving poochie home. |

take the extra time and go south and find the cut through the mtns, and just go to the needles! nobody will be there to hassle you about the dog, and its waaaayyy better climbing than yosemite! |

yeah, i've been thinking about the needles. I've pretty much given up on yosemite for this trip as I have to have the dog with me, so now I'm just looking for the best climbing roadtrip route from San Diego to San Francisco, and the Coastal Route is looking slightly dismal given that I was originally thinking Bishop and Yos. |

The Tool hates dogs in Yosemite. They threatened to shoot my dog in Tuolumne, but Tool types are cowards! |

Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Stay in Yosemite West. Steph Davis has a cabin that is dog friendly and you're 20-30min from the valley. She is a pleasure to deal withe and the cabin is great. She can point you to other cabins if hers is rented We spent a week there and it was very nice. She has a place called hummingbird house (or something close). Do a search for yosemite west and it will come up with a bit of looking. |

If you have your dog with you skip Yosemite and head to the Eastside. Lots of dog friendly areas (quieter too). |

if you head to the needles, theres a pass not too far south that wil take you to the 395. after the needles go to bishop, and enjoy that, then go to the mobile mart on your way to tuolumne, just stop for fairview dome-the regular route- and have someone watch your dog. after that you can just drive outa yose. and camp on the way down to the city. if you have the time/gas. and you shouldnt be hasseled by flunky cops! after reading you post again, if its only 3 days, just go to the needles and forget the rest!! that place is magical!! |
