Yes, a glitch is preventing removal. I am on it.

I don't like it even a little though I'm sure it's much better and I will come to love it as I did my ex-wife after some getting used to her.

I like Jon's idea of breaking the Fortress into two areas. The style of the routes differs enough that the areas feel distinct. I would add the 'Orifice Wall' to the 'Summit Crags' section and leave 'The Fortress' as it is.

Perhaps someone can list the order of the routes at the Orifice Wall on its main page. I am tempted to try some of the routes but would like to do so with as few witnesses as possible. My ego is delicate.

Jon Ruland wrote:yeah that is much better for sure. nice work james! while we're at it, i was wondering if we could perhaps divide the fortress up into 2 separate areas within the fortress itself--the orifice wall, and the fortress proper, or something like that. we already do this for places like munchkinland, which is a much smaller piece of rock than the fortress. is anyone with me? does anyone have any suggestions for what to call the part of the fortress that isn't the orifice wall? if people disagree and think it's fine as is then i'll STFU, EABOD, GTFO and DIAF.
excellent idea, jon! once again you have proven how thoughtful and intelligent you are, not to mention how your rugged masculinity makes the ladies swoon.

all of you would do well to hear what jon has to say. he is, after all, the next closest thing to a prophet.

The Orifice Wall is on the Fortress but is a world unto itself but it might confuse people. Might think it is a separate crag. John H. keep in mind that all of us get our butts kicked for awhile up there. The group hug and singing Cum Bai Ya (SP?) at the end of the day is really comforting and that is the benefit of crushing your ego with others. Got to agree with Don Buland again! Thanks James.

So, what makes more sense, to make Orifice Wall a sub-area of the Fortress like this:

Summit Crags
--The Fortress
-----The Fortress ("Proper" or "South Face" or some such)
-----Orifice Wall
--Rappel Rock
--The Ravens
--The Ravelin
--Murray Wall

OR to make Orifice Wall it's own Summit Crag like this:

Summit Crags
--The Fortress
--Orifice Wall
--Rappel Rock
--The Ravens
--The Ravelin
--Murray Wall

I certainly don't care at all, and am open to other arrangements if you can think of any.

i personally think it makes the most sense to make the orifice wall a sub-area of the fortress, simply because it is actually a part of the fortress. if we list it as its own area it might be confusing.

honestly though, either way is fine with me just so long as it becomes its own section.

EDIT:
i also think The Fortress Proper (or maybe some other word, idk i dun really like Proper but it may be the best word) is better than South Face because there are climbs on the east and west faces in addition to the south face.

It was fine before all the messing around...

yes but it could be better. mediocrity is acceptable but we're shooting higher. just like a B grade on a college course might be "fine", an A grade is much more desirable. all that is required is that the student is willing to put in the effort.

You're welcome, Caleb. I really only spend my precious time maintaining this site for my health, anyway ...and personal glory of course!

If only you had chimed in earlier with your several months of climbing knowledge and experience, I wouldn't have changed a thing. It's these pesky local climbers who've been around for the past twenty or thirty years. They made me do it.

(PS - You should try rockclimbing.com instead. I hear they have a great route database; should suit your standards just fine.)

Nice job James. It surprised me to see the change, but it made sense very quickly as I navigated around.

Jon Ruland · · Tucson, AZ · Joined May 2007 · Points: 651

yep, the new change is fantastic. it's much easier to navigate and figure out which rocks are where in the tucson area. thanks very much james!

You are all very welcome. The truth is that you guys have all made this website and route database what it is. Glad that folks are, by and large, pleased with the new arrangement. Consensus works! Who knew?!

Looks good James. Only thing I see is that if you are trying to make the site easier and user friendly is why not put the areas in order. Such as Lower Highway, Bear Canyon, Windy Point East, Windy Point West, Windy Ridge, Mid-Mountain, Summit. Just my .02. Looks good though once you get use to it. Thanks
