First time to Boise

I'm taking a XC road trip in August and planning to go through Boise. My partner and I are newer to outdoor sport climbing (have climbed lots outdoors with other people setting up lead, but not so much on our own) and have gear for setting top rope only (no quickdraw rack yet). Any suggestions for the best 5.9 & 5.10 toprope climbs in the Boise area for 1 day of climbing (so hopefully climbs near each other)? I appreciate any suggestions! Also if you have suggestions on the best guide book for the area thats great too.

For a ton of climbs right next to each other in that grade you cant miss the Black Cliffs. It's fairly vertical basalt and there are climbs of all grades every few feet along the cliff wall (plus several less traveled 'coves' along the same highway with great climbs), bolted or trad. Many of them make good toprope climbs and can be reached by a short, but steep hike around the side of the main cliff wall...plus there's a few decent anchors at the top to leash into while you rig the TR system on the chains. For guide books you'll need "Boise Climbs" by Sandy Epeldi.

If you want bouldering check out either Table Rock (righ outside of Boise) and/or Swan Falls (30mins or so out of town by the Snake River). Sandy has a book dedicated to Swan Falls also if you plan on checking it out.

Hope that helps, enjoy your time around Boise!
