Way ahead of you. I got some huge ones from home depot. I'd say they could hold like 300 pounds wich is plenty to hold me.

Oh and you need chalk. Lots and lots of chalk. I think people have a special baggy they put it in.

LOL....antagonizer!!!

So I personally recommend (after a search course)a 50m hemp rope, full set of hexes, 10 oval carabiners, a swami belt, a set of chocks and some hobnail boots.

That'll get you up anything!!

Crap!! I'm such a skimmer...

You'll want to get white so that way others that aren't as "core" as you will know you've been on the route first by your trail.

And it's more visable so when you're at the bar everyone will know you are a "climber" and are "core" and will buy you drinks to salute your manliness.

Make sure you get a beanie... can't climb without one!

I beanie does work best without a shirt though. Yep, you will definitely not need a shirt.

I recommend you read up on Jim Ebert and his expertise with Top Roping before you begin something as dangerous as lead climbing...It may change your mind and save your life...

But you should start in the gym first...be sure to buy all these recommended items and wear them on your harness while at the gym.

Especially take note to wear at LEAST 2 belay devices, 1 quickdraw and 3 locking biners. If you don't people will begin to think you aren't "core".

Remember...no "core", no beers bought to celebrate your manliness.

One of the first pieces of gear I would purchase is one of these cams, and make sure you carry it up every time (even at the gym). It's a critical component to any beginner's rack.

So I only have a bag of hemp, but im told its very strong so that should work. Also do I need a #1 or #2 valley giant and just how core will this make me look?

you should get one of those things so you can clean your anchor. I think they call them daisy chains. Dont worry about what they are really for, just use them to clean your anchor.

or are they called aiders? either way.

I would buy both...hang them off opposing ends of your harness to equalize. This should maximize your "coreness". Add +10 if you walk around Vedawoo wearing these.

Buy doubles of both and I will climb with you...until I run off with your monster cams. Muahahahaha

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
