I've never been down the less popular gullies. So I'm not sure about the solar exposure of a few routes. Anyone know how much shade the Long Draw, Prisoner of your Hairdo, and Chillumstone Gully routes get?

Sorry about the brackets. I was just feeling nostalgic.

I did Great White Wall a few weeks ago, from what I remember the route was in the shade till about three in the afternoon towards the top. Definitely worth looking into.

Damn, that's what I was worried about since Atlantis is at the top of my list.

What about Ground Control to Major Tom? That seems like a pretty shady one? BTW does anyone have any beta on Way of the Ancients? As in whether its any good?

Thanks for the responses.

If you move fast you can sneak up Crystal Vision before melting. Or, you can run up the Cruise in the afternoon post sun, but even then the rock is roasting.

The east side of Long Draw (west facing routes) has some options including (from north to south) Super Wuss, Great White, Tufnel-McGee and Death Camas Dihedrals. West-facing rock has had all night to cool-off whereas with east-facing routes you'd be getting onto the griddle shortly after the sun leaves it. You could probably do 2/3 or more of any of these routes before getting sun, considering 5:30 sunrise.

What about the dragon point stuff? Haven't climbed any of 'em myself, but it always looks shady over there, not sure about summer time though.

Dragon Point is definitely worth checking out. The routes are truly in the shade all day, though July and August are HOT. If you're in the area and it's a cool day (for Jul/Aug) it can be great.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
