Alli > Going Bionic: Post Bankart Repair Surgery

I had Bankart Repair Surgery on April 29th at Columbia Pres in New York City. Right labrum was torn from 10:00 - 2:00, with fissures on 3:00 and 9:00. Culprit, bouldering. Surgeon used four anchors to secure remaining tissue inside shoulder socket. So far, so good... between weeks four and five post op, so far working with pt on range of motion. Diligence to prescribed pt seems to be paying off so far! Looking forward to getting back on my bike. Think about climbing every day, but it's so far off, the milestones along the road are now focal points! Both surgeon and physical therapist are fantastic (and work together) if you need a reference! Or, if you'd like to chat about bad injuries, I feel your pain.

Quick update - after 8 and 1/2 weeks of pt, I was cleared to run. Doing pt before surgery, and diligence with the "homework" seems to be paying off. Also range of motion is coming along really well.

Update from 10 and 1/2 weeks - completed 30 pushups (with knees on floor) under pt's supervision. This feels like major progress! Looking forward to doing more and more each week. The challenge now of course is to hold back, since pain is more or less gone. Feeling like patience will pay off.

Update from four months post op - started climbing moderate routes on top rope indoors. First session was little painful, by third session, climbed eight routes with minimal pain. Challenge is to hold back a bit more... big picture is that surgery is still very recent! Overall, really happy with progress and to be back climbing!!!
