Doug. Are you saying he should tie to the rope with a "Bowline in a Coil"? We used to tie in with those in my teen years and "top rope". When you fell you pretty much just lowered right to the ground because of the extreme discomfort to lower back and hips. Old Swami belt was essentially the same thing but less discomfort. I couldn't imagine every taking a lead fall with BiaC or Swami but in the pre-harness days that was what you got...
