What has MP done for you?

As I sit here with two of my room mates while all of use chuckle about various forum posts and refer each other to one crag or another I realize that MP has brought us together and while, yes, prevented us from preparing for our finals, it has created a special bond. (you know what I mean)

How about you guys any sexy MP stories?

I seem to have similar experiences as you... with my roommates as well.

Wait aren't you guys dating..and aren't we all naked right now?

Do you think Mountain Project made this happen...

MP is so sneaky...

Wait, Kayla, I thought you and I were the ones dating. And Sam and Skyeler were together...? Have I been wrong this whole time!?

The four of us got naked so gradually...I didn't even notice. Wow.

As described to me by a long time MP poster,

"MP is like crack"

Is it bad I'm hoping MP will done for me the nekkid picture mentioned many times above?

Phil Lauffen · · Innsbruck, AT · Joined Jun 2008 · Points: 3,098

ah darn dirtbag comment someone flag me.

Tony B · · Around Boulder, CO · Joined Jan 2001 · Points: 24,665

I would have, but it says if I abuse the flag, my account will be suspended. Note previous posts which refer to MP as crack- I don't want cut off from my supply.

As for what it's done for me- it's been a great respurce for the exchange of information about climbing development and news, and has helped many an author write their guides.

Three years ago I was going for my typical morning run and felt some slight pain on the left side of my chest. At first I thought it was just the ravages of time, but throughout the rest of the day it kept getting worse until I could ignore it no longer. I made an appointment with my doctor and could barely sleep that night due to the anxiety. What could the issue be? Did I overdo it trying to smoke all of those banana peels when I was younger? Was the decision of my parents to construct my childhood home entirely out of asbestos panels now catching up with me? The forced child labor in the coal mines?

Early the next morning I arose, got dressed and drove myself to the doctor's office. The examination was over with a quick cough and samples sent away for testing. A chest x-ray removed all doubt from the diagnosis: I had lung cancer. Immediately I felt as if I had aged 20 years and left the doctor's office with a sense of foreboding. How should I tell my family? What would happen next?

I longed for the carefree days of my youth when I would scramble over granite and sandstone, the rope snaking down, down, down to my belayer, always vigilant with my safety. The wind in my hair, the sun on my back as I slotted a cam into a perfect handcrack. I wept as I realized that I would never experience this sensation again, never again would I climb towards the gods.

I returned home and logged into MountainProject to delete my profile. I wanted to say farewell to my sortable todo list, to the weather reports on each crag page, to the comments and consensus ratings on each climb I had done. I would miss the bolt-war threads, the "I left some fixed draws on climb X and someone STOLE them" discussions and the subtle yet pervasive degradation of boulderers and gym climbers. I clicked onto my profile page and felt a strange sensation washing over my body.

I cannot describe it in words, the feeling was better than pulling that last move onto a jug after a 40 foot runout above a #1 BallNut. It was like moving from a tenuous crimp into a solid handjam. I didn't realize what it meant at first, but I immediately ran over to my hangboard and started doing pullups. Can it be? Could this really be happening? A visit to my doctor the next day confirmed my suspicions beyond any doubt.

What has MountainProject done for me? MountainProject cured my cancer.

I've learned that cats are way better in still shots than dogs are.
There's a metaphor in there somewhere...

Cats are better than dogs(*) AS shots, no matter if still, shaken or stirred.

1) Decapitate
2) Hold over shot glass
3) Bottoms up

It might not taste the best, but the palate is mitigated by knowing that you just rid the world of one more cat.

(*) = Chihuahuas and other gerbil-cross-breeds count as cats.

MP has connected me to many new friends and climbing partners over the past 8 years.
