Beanfest - Spring 2010 April 23-25th

I want to go to this, but I have a low clearance vehicle. I could meet up in Flag but would need to hitch a ride into the climbing area. Can anyone help me there?

Laura:

I think you may be confused about the location. Beanfest will be at the Cochise Stronghold, which is about an hour and a half south of Tucson. The good news is that it's all passenger-car safe dirt road.

If you need directions, email me directly and I'll send them to you.

Bridgette:

Thanks for the correction. Newby question. Anyways, yes, I would need directions. Preferable to follow someone down for the first time.

I can bring several batches of homemade salsa and chips.

That sounds great.. thanks for offering that up. The t-shirts are on order. Life is still a little crazy but i'll elaborate more later on what we need, etc.

Laura:

If you don't find someone on here coming down from Phoenix, check with the folks on the Phoenix Climbing Meetup that are coming down. You may even be able to carpool from there.

Here are directions:

Since I've not been to this climbing / camping site before, I would feel more comfortable meeting up with someone and following them to the site. Any will leaders?

There are plenty of border patrol agents that are out there that will point you in the right direction after you answer some of their questions.

I'll be heading out wednesday night or thursday morning if you would like to follow me out.

I have to work Thursday. I could possibly get Friday off, but I think you want to go down before then.

Great news!!! Snow forecast for the weekend.

Untrue! Just checked, and it's snow for Thursday and Friday and perfect climbing weather - clear and mid-60s - for Saturday and Sunday.

Woohoo!

I sure hope so but based on the weather history I'm thinking it may deteriorate by the end of the week.

What is still needed for this weekend?

Where's your optimism?

Luke: The list on page 2 of this post was updated this morning as far as what's already been offered. If you can bring any of the missing items, let me know. Thanks!

I lost it spending weeks on end this spring with beautiful weather during the week then rain, wind and cold all weekend long. But I'm still holding out hope for the weekend.

I suppose that'd do it...

Is the big bean gathering it self the evening of the 24th? I figure it is Saturday evening / night... = when do you need my contributions there?

Brigette: I can bring tomatoes. How many do you figure I should get? I'm sure I could bring some pots, pans, and cooking utensils too. Not sure how many pots and pans will be needed. For cooking utensils; what do we need other than some knives and stirring spoons?

Luke: The potluck, games, etc. will be on Saturday evening. We'll probably start prepping for dinner at 4 or 5 so that we can eat around 6 or 7. You can drop stuff off immediately prior to that, or, if you're going to climb out there on Saturday, you can drop it off with Daryl in the morning.

How about a dozen tomatoes? Seems like a good, round number. :) We'll probably end up needing half a dozen cooking pots, so just bring as many as you'd like. Pretty much just knives and stirring spoons for cooking. Probably wouldn't hurt to have some serving-type spoons as well.

Thanks!

I believe we still need a stove or two for heating things. Also, if anyone can bring out some general purpose water for hand/pot/utensil washing, that would be a huge help.

Ice for the keg(s) would be a big help as well. Based on the rsvp's and emailed confirmed people showing up i'm not 100% sure we need a 2nd keg.

If anyone can bring a bottle of Jose Cuervo for the beaning/christenings, that would be a huge help as well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
