Climbing near Loveland and Fort Collins

Hello all, there is a chance I might be moving to Loveland or Fort Collins this summer. What crags are near there, if any? I'm an avid climber making my move from Texas (yeah, I know.. another one) but it's in my blood! My mom was from there :)

Anyway, whatever info you can give me would be appreciated. The job would be in Loveland, but the proximity of climbing would determine if I lived North or South of Loveland.

Big Thompson Canyon just west of Loveland, Lumpy and Estes just a little further.

If you want to be close to climbing seems like West Loveland would be really nice.

There is more climbing within a few hours of Loveland/Fort Collins than you can do in a lifetime. I have been here 24 years, and my "to do" list of climbs is longer now than when I got here! Spend some time scaning the MP site and enjoy. Welcome to the area.

Both Carter Lake and Horsetooth Res. are in your backyard... classic sandstone bouldering spot for your after work outings. Definitely get a yearly pass.

Check out Vedauwoo in Wyoming, only a little over an hour from the Fort:

Or go up the Poudre Canyon ~45mins to the Palace for good sport:

Otherwise Carter, Horsetooth and Big Thompson for sure. Enjoy, I lived out there for 3+ years and LOVED it. The breweries in the Fort are amazing too: Odell, New Belgium, Fort Collins Brewery, and some other brewpubs as well.

Good luck with the move!

Thanks, I was getting nervous that there might not be a lot of stuff close by. Boulder is my idea location, but for now I'm just going to be happy to leave Texas, finally! Just got a contract on my house AND a call about a job up in Loveland. So, looks like I will be getting up there! I can hardly wait!

Loveland is the heart and soul of Colorado.(and I'm not on the Chamber of Commerce there.).. You can't do much better for a great place to live and work, with proximity to absolutely fantastic climbing of any kind within a couple hours drive. You will love it there.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
