So for the past 2 months I have had a nagging shoulder issue, some days good, some mediocre. Kind of dull aching that seems to go away when I climb...outside, not inside. Indoors always seems to tweak it and I took a week long trip to St George, climbed on it 6 out of 7 days, no issues. I was going to PT at Boulder Sports Medicine, and the guy I was going to had me on some kind of all around strengthening program for my back and shoulders. Said posture was an issue along with tight chest...lots of stretching, etc.

Now I have this dull ache near my scapula today (pressure change? who knows)...and I'm thinking maybe it's time for an MRI, it's been a few months.

ALso wanting to get a new opinion...so any recommendations on who to go talk to? I need to know what's going on.

Indoor climbing is hard on the body, how often do you go?

See Dr. Khamerin Seng at Mapleton Hill Orthopedics(specializes in knee injuries as well) or if you want to see a different PT, I worked with one in South Boulder. She's good and is a climber so she understands climbing injuries.

I hope you get it worked out.

B-
I had one quick question. You said that it's achey near the scapula, where along the scapula, and is that where the pain was originally or did the shoulder pain start somewhere else, if so where?

Not knowing anything else I would guess that the problem has more to do w/ the musculature and your shoulder mechanics. Generally speaking if there's a structural defect in the shoulder, ie torn something it would get irritated when you climb on it.

The guy I refer my patients to is Dr. Schneider
he's an elbow and shoulder surgeon. He definitely knows his stuff and I like him because he doesn't take surgery lightly, he'll only work on someone if he really believes that surgery is the best option. He also can relate to those of us that tend to not be so nice to our bodies when were out playing and keep in mind that you'll want to be able to return to and surpass your previous performance levels.

One last question, have you dislocated your shoulder before?
Good luck w/ the shoulder, I hope it can be resolved w/out a knife,
BA

Hey Brent,

Never dislocated it before, and the pain is kind of on the outside of the scapula. I've seen your website and am curious about possibly meeting with you. Would love to have you take a look and see what might be happening.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
