Bouldering in July

My wife and I want to take a trip in the US or Canada in July and do some bouldering. We have a 13 mo old son so it would be good if it was kid/family friendly and had some other fun things to do in the area. Most of the places I know are pretty hot for climbing that time of year, what would be the best destination around then? Tahoe/Yosemite (Tuolumne)? Squamish?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The Valley will be hot but definitely doable, plus there's tons of other family fun stuff to do. Tuolumne is also great, and the bouldering that much easier to find with the newer Supertopo guide. When my daughter was about that age, my wife and I spent a couple of nights at the lodge in Tuolumne (tent cabins). It was awesome. Bouldering, playing in the river, hiking with a baby backpack. Fun time. Make your reservations NOW, whether you're camping or at the lodge.

On the eastside, there's lots of bouldering at the Deads, etc. The Druids is cooler than the Milks, but you've got that hike. Generally, you can boulder near Bishop in the summer. You've just got to do it in the morning or late afternoons and find shade. The Ice Caves at the Sads, for example, is a good spot.

Maybe Mt. Evans in Colorado.

Squamish would be a good choice. Good July temperatures, good climbing, good scene, beautiful location. I imagine it would be very kid friendly. The boulders are only a 5-10 miute walk from the car park and/or campground, and are in a lovely, soft, friendly bit of forest.

Agreed on Squamish. I was there in July or August and the weather was great. It's also a really beautiful area, so hiking and just hanging out are pretty rewarding.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
