I just clove hitch the rope to the tope and use an auto belay to solo top rope. Very smooth, too.

Yeah, the knot system isn't the best way, but man I wanted to climb hard and, what I thought, safe. Worked great! Moving a clove while pumped on hard 5.10 for me wasn't do-able. Back then, I didn't even know what a clove hitch was. ;)
