We're planning on a climbing trip to Shelf Road. Weather is kinda iffy. Anyone been there in the last week? Climbing/camping ok? Conditions would be much appreciated!

Yep. 50 and still climbing. Still refer to your book, too. How bout you? Obviously still in the loop. Hope you're doing well.

it's been a few weeks now but i was down there when the weather was slightly warmer than forecasted and with more sunshine. it was perfectly tolerable for climbing but it wasn't the kind of weather that makes you want to bask in the sun and revel in the fact that you're climbing in the middle of winter.

i didn't camp but friends did and said it was windy and cold.

Hi Drag,

Yep, still going at it, but only one day a week, weather providing.
I still point out the line to folks that you and I toproped to the right of Professor Plum at The Wood.
We called it East Meets West. I think it is solid 5.13, pinching pencil erasers above the 5.12 roof start.

Hey, do you have any FA history on The Wood that might not have been covered in the Mosiman-Holonich guide or Scenic Solitude?

I've tried to get in touch with Mosiman and Holonich, but they have been unresponsive.

We will have a group going there Sat Feb 27. We usually try to go every weekend from CoSprings. I have climbed there on a day when a storm came through and it snowed, but we hung out while everyone else left, and it cleared up in an hour and we had 2.5 hours left of choice climbing.

The important thing is the clouds in winter. If it is cloudy then your fingers are numb on the first climb around 10-11 am. Bring hand warmers! If it is sunny and 50 degrees then you can climb without shirts.

As for camping expect cold nights. The temps drop quickly around 4-5 pm and it will be 40 degrees or less all night. A backup plan is stay in a motel in Canon City.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
