This topic has been covered already in this thread. Hank climbs harder than you, so therefore your opinion, if different from Hanks, is invalid. Please hate something else about rock gyms, preferably whatever Hank hates.

It was just a topic question man. The Wife and I are on the way to the gym this evening, we actually love our time in the gym, I just thought that crappy tape jobs made my mind into jello. I don't climb harder than anybody and I would appreciate Ryan not using a monkey with a beer to taunt me! Chill people. Fuzzy bunnies, cool blue oceans, serenity now.......

Oh man...sorry to hear someone got hospitalized...but I have called those things the "Staph Cracks" from the get go. Doesn't take a genius to figure out they could be unhealthy. No thanks.

For the record, Any life sized picture, I may have in my closet, is of a much younger guy. I mean, come on, the hankster is forty and well into the decline. Sides... if Im going to 'pull the old Crying Game' I prefer guys that don't name drop and spray as much.

And yea, I am somebody Hank knows, unless he was to busy 'inventing the word spray' to notice who was climbing, biving and partying right next to him ' back in Rifle in the early 90's'.

As far as the size of my balls, check them out next time you are massaging my taint with your tounge.

Sorry my user name throws you into a tizzy. Just suck it up princess and try to pay attention, it makes your posts sound a lot less silly. Hank figured out and posted, who I am yesterday. Probably took him about 60 seconds to figure it out, I'm hardly anonymous.

i hate that it's not acceptable to give a hi-five to someone who is on the route next to you.

This thread is great, thanks for posting, Hank. In gyms, I don't like seeing the large number of people using unsafe belaying techniques - and nobody approaches them to correct the danger, not even staff. A climbing gym consists of the local ***COMMUNITY***

I have two main gripes with climbing at the gym. One is over crowding. It can be frustrating to wait and wait for a chance on that one new route. It's also aggravating when you're getting ready to pull the crux on a boulder problem in the cave, only to see someone watching you intently... right in your fall zone.

My other complaint is that it kills my shoes. As a poor social worker/student I can't afford a lot of gear. Luckily I've found some great local deals thanks to MP :)

(Also, after climbing at Momentum for a season, I switched to Rockreation, and found it to be a much higher quality experience, with more creative and challenging routes. At least that's my opinion :) )

They hurt. I only climb indoors a couple times per year, but when I do I seem to walk out with a tweaked tendon somewhere.

Reachy routes/boulder problems. The routes at the gym here have grades that are pretty reasonable if you're 6 feet tall with a good-sized wingspan. If you're 5'8 or shorter, good luck finding anything over v0/5.9 that doesn't have an unintended crux throw to some hold or another.

1. Not being able to see the tape. Put the tape on top of the holds! I spend too much time/energy trying to find where my feet go because I can't see the tape below the holds from above.

2. The music! Good gawd! Would it really kill them to play some Napalm Death every once in a while? Sheesh!

3. Crowds. I went to Movement for the first time last week with Tits. It was a nut house!

Gym rats
I always seem to bash my elbows on massive holds
I climb a full number grade softer inside from outside

John,

I had to watch that video several times and I still don't believe it....

"Serious gangsta skill on the mark". Oh brother.

I am glad I grew up in a period of (ancient) history when music had some, er, music in it.

Climbing gyms rule! At least I think they do; I have never been to one.

What do I hate most about rock gyms?
The climbing is inside, and being outside communing with nature is the very reason that I find climbing appealing.
I'd rather hike around outside in a blizzard than climb indoors.

What do I like the most about rock gyms?
It keeps the outdoor crags vacated on cold, snowy or rainy days.
I like to boulder caves on rainy days.

John, that video is the sickest example of gangster skill i've ever seen. Thank you.

I climb because I (for the most part) have a very strong dislike for people and love being outside so rock climbing facilitates my needs well. I've never been to a gym, can't understand the reason for going to the gym. I honestly don't understand at all. It's like paying to lift weights, pointless and unproductive. I think there's a rock gym 3 minutes from my house and I have no clue where the place is and wouldn't go if it was free.

So the things I hate most about the gym is it's unnatural, there are far too many humans there, it's inside, I'm guessing it stinks, the idea of dirty holds freaks me out, it's too controlled and it involves nothing I see as a reason to rock climb.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
