"-We're planning to avoid most of the west side resort-y stuff"

WHY? besides the Grand Hyatt, Wailea it's the best place to pirate outdoor jaccuzi's in the evenings.

Twin falls and the 'Bamboo forest'

The Cliff House on upper west side
(great jumping off the roof into the water with a view of Moloka'i)
(Listen for whales singing underwater out in the channel))

The Mysto beach in the lava flow between Dumps and LaPerouse bay.
(awesome snorkeling)

Seven Pools via Ulupalakua and Kaopo, come home Haiku way.

Ulupalakua Winery
(hike to Skull Cave in the last lava flow on the island)

Pauwela lighthouse (cliff with awesome N.Shore view)

Waiehu Valley
(hike into and past the suspension bridge)

Borrow or rent mnt bikes and do the pirate run down the back side through Poli Poli park

-Just a couple quick thoughts, more to come, explanations upon request ;)

Do they still have the "beater" rental cars? Back in the day I think you were less likely a smash n grab target with a local looking car.

Stop in and have a picnic at Honomanu Bay, between Haiku and Hana, another one of my all time spots.....(just don't go swimming if the locals have a gill net out in the bay...lol).

Only other thing I'd mention, if yall are camping in Haleakala it gets frikkin cold at night, colder than you'd ever imagine Hawaii being, be prepared.

I'm jeleous.

I was just thinking to myself how lame the beach interviews were until I watched Round of 64 Heat 5, Rob Machado & Sunny Garcia, LOL!

We can't get a break here in the armpit of the East coast. Yet another storm event Friday with big choppy slush turned superduper sideshore over night with the dreaded west winds... cold and crap.

There were some kiters down the beach but I was to depressed to bother with driving down there to take some pictures.

On a positive note, I managed to flash a 5.9 at our local wall that had been giving me grief on my last 6 attempts.. pent up frustration I rekon.

The north shores - A major new NW swell will arrive Wednesday, having prompted high surf warning level waves. Surf will be large to very large Wednesday through Thursday…gradually dropping Friday, although remain at high surf advisory level through the weekend. High surf should continue into next week.
