Seriously, I used to work with vansickle and Pablo and they asked me about rockclimbing.com. I told them that they'd get their shit pushed in, and left it at that. The mp approach yields a higher signal-to-noise, but any anarchist with some time to kill can seriously ruin your day. That's awesome...that was a fun little troll war. Seems like a lifetime ago... |

If I want to have an argument and see how much I can piss people off, all I need to do is go start a thread about bolts and wait for Jay to show up. RC.com is entertainment If I want actual information on something or an adult conversation then I come to MP.com. People might get a little snappy but they're not gonna cry me a river about how I should do a search or how stupid I am. MP.com is useful. I've also noticed there's a positive correlation between the volume of experienced climbers who post here (guidebook authors, well known first ascenscionists, elite climbers/guides/pro-athletes) as compared to RC.com. Not sure if that's a real correlation or what the cause is but I think it says something about the sites. RC.com just seems to attract a lot of gumbies, which is probably why the high post count crowd feels so entitled to tear them a new one anytime they make any noise. That being said, RC.com has definately thickened my internet skin but I've only met a few people off that site. On MP.com some of these people I climb with regularly or are friends of people I climb with regularly. It's hard to keep friends when you act like a jerk. Personally, if half the "conversations" I've had on RC.com were in person they'd have quickly turned into a fist fights not so on MP.com, even in threads where I strongly disagreed with people. Respectful disagreement is far from the norm on RC.com but it is what it is.that route you're on in the your profile pic...is now bolted. |
