Redpoint Climbers Supply of Smith Rock Robbed
Hey everyone, |
A bump, and also some more information. |
Alright, here's the list..... it's a doozy |
This is just infuriating. I was at Smith on Saturday and everyone was incredulous that this happened. |
That's horrible! Were you literally cleaned out (maybe random thieves?), or was there enough "picking and choosing" that you think it was climbers that did it? |

Surely the following post is not related, but just in case (brand new gear, quickdraws and C3): |
This needs to be cross-posted at every climbing related website. |
That is one SHIT LOAD of bad climbing Karma right there! Man, I'm sorry, wow, that really sucks. Do you want me to call the Sheriff or shoot first? |
Bump and semi update. |

So unless they have a time machine transporter, I think they have an alibi. Not trying to be a jerk, but we have too many threads with everyone crying "thief, thief". That being said, I do mean thanks for looking out for everyone's gear. It's nice to know that people care!! Best... |

Best...Scott, I did not notice the date, just the brand new gear that matched some of the gear from Red's list. I didn't yell thief, in fact I prefaced my statement by stating that "surely this is not related." That said, I think it would be wise for folks to pay attention to most things that get sold online. The reason I say this is not to encourage people to be suspicious of one another, but simply because unless you are a dumb ass thief, than you will probably be selling items in small lots that appear as though they are plausible sales of personal gear (i.e. only an idiot would show up on MP and sell the entire lot of gear that Red lost). Nevertheless, I take no offense to your comment pointing out the date...I should have noticed. Best. |
Thanks for being understanding as I really meant no offense, and don't think you were calling them a thief. Those threads get a little crazy with everyone jumping on the "thief" bandwagon. |

Best of luck to Redpoint in getting back your merchandise, I hope the surveillance videos pan out and these jerkoffs are picked up in a hurry! edit to add: I wonder if it'd be worth posting this on your local craigslist in some fashion? Seems like that might be the easiest avenue for the thieves to get rid of the dirty goods, if that is indeed their intent... |

Redpoint wrote:Bump and semi update. . I don't know if anyone is a lawyer, but if anyone is at fault, would it be the right move to sue? I don't want to be that "guy" who sues.... Some Good news, the restaurant across the street has a camera that faces the parking lot and pretty much the door they broke in through. So once the police get the footage they should have a good lead.Eric, I am definitely against the culture of suing the restaurant when you spill hot coffee on your lap, however, in your case it would seem entirely reasonable to sue the security company. When you consider the amount of gear that got stolen (which absolutely blows my mind), than one has to come to the conclusion that it took a pretty long time to load up all of that gear into a truck. Thus, if the security system had been working at all, one would think the sheriff would have had ample time to arrive at the scene and bust these parasites. If it were me, I would contact a couple lawyers and get some information. My guess is that the security company is going to want to, at a minimum, settle this outside of court for fear of being held totally responsible. On a positive note, after I read through all of what is missing, I can't imagine that these folks are not going to get caught via word of mouth or a slip up on their part. I just think that there is no way that THAT much gear can go missing without a 'friend of a friend' noticing that "Joe's" basement is full of gear. Something will turn up. On that note, perhaps the best thing that the rest of us as a community can do is to spread the knowledge of this event to everyone we know. The more people at climbing gyms etc. that know about this, the better chance that someone is going to know something, put the pieces together, and contact Eric or the authorities. Perhaps it is worth pointing out to people that this is not simply a large scale retailer like REI getting ripped off, but Eric's livelihood being jeopardized. Best of luck Eric. |

Remember in Alladin when they were going to cut his hand off for stealing...when these thieves are caught their hands should go so they can never climb again (words from the taoist)...ha ha |
Holy shit that's a lot of gear. Dude, I sincerely hope that you can find out who stole your stuff and get most of it back. As someone above mentioned it seems unlikely that they will be able to unload that much stuff without somebody noticing. Back when I was involved in skydiving big ticket gear would come up missing from time to time from a given skydiving center only to be walked into a neighboring skydiving place a few weeks later for sale by some retarded hoodlum. Unfortunately, I guess with climbing gear there aren't any identifying marks like serial numbers that can be easily tracked. That sucks. |
BD cams have lot numbers on them, and I'd expect most other cams and major hardware do as well. Might be able to track down the lot numbers through your purchase if you weren't anal enough to write them down. |

Bump/ Update. |

Hi Eric, |
So you had an alarm and it didn't work and these guys cleaned you out almost completely? The fact that it wasn't a simple smash and grab leads me to think they knew you and your business fairly well. How long would it take to remove all that stuff? Sounds like a betrayal to me. |
