I broke an ankle (talus) in 1982 and have finally gotten to the point where I need to have something done about the pain, arthritis, etc..
As climbers that seems to be one of the common injuries, does anyone have experience with a subtalar fusion and could recommend a physician, as well as discuss recovery.
Go to Cornerstone Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in the Louisville Avista hospital. 303-665-2603. Ask to get an appt with the ankle dude (I forgot his name). He is supposedly the best. My wife broke her talus and he took good care of her.
Dr. Mike Repine did my ankle last spring, and did a fantastic job. He is at the Boulder Medical Center a couple days a week, and in Golden the rest of the time.
I don't have experience with subtalar fusion, but I did break my talus via a subtalar dislocation. Dr. Leland at Mapleton Hill Orthopedics ( mapletonhill.com) did a great job with my ankle and has experience with climbers other then myself. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Leland also did my talus surgery last February. Not a fusion but screws and plates. I was very happy with the outcome and he has worked on a lot of talus fractures.
I can also strongly recommend Robert Leland. He repaired a distal radial fracture in my wrist most beautifully. He told me that his real specialy is ankle injuries.
