Where to go toproping in mid March

Howdy,

I'm the president of the climbing club at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and I'm looking for some destinations to lead the club to over spring break in the middle of March. We spent a bunch of time in South Dakota and Minnesota this fall when the temperatures where quite cold so now I'd like to head somewhere warmer where daytime temps are no lower than mid/upper 50s or in the 60s at least. The other thing is that the university will not allow us to do any type of climbing other than top roping. We can't even have people trad or sport up routes to set up top ropes. The recommendations that I've had already are:
Joshua Tree
Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma
Moab or Southern Utah

I've never climbed in Joshua Tree or Utah so I'm wondering if anyone can give me any advice on whether these are good areas or any other places that you can think of that would be good for beginning to intermediate top rope climbs.

JT is good. Also consider Red Rocks in Las Vegas. There are some great top rope areas and it's about 20 minutes from a major airport. There is a decent campground there or you can take advantage of Vegas. Could be cheaper logistically.

I’ve spent more time in J-tree than Moab but I think J-tree sounds more like what you’re looking for. The only top rope area where you can set up multiple ropes on easier routes that I can think of in Moab is Potash (I could be wrong, I’ve only been there a few times). In J-tree you have multiple areas where you can walk up to the top and set up multiple top ropes on easier routes. Off the top of my head I can think of Trashcan Rock (in the sun), Thin Wall (in the shade), Echo Cove (sun on one side shade on the other, easier routes in the sun), there are a lot more I just can’t think of any right now. Last I heard you had to have a guide permit to have big organized groups in J-tree, I’d contact the park service to find out, also since there are so many areas that are easily set up with multiple routes there are a lot of people doing it. Get there early and set up before they are all taken.

Oh another thing to think of is weather; it rains/snows a lot in March. Last year we got crap for snow in the winter months and then got killed in March, the local ski resort closed with the biggest base it’s ever had. J-tree has a rain shadow because of Mt San Gorgonio and even if it’s raining everywhere else in SoCal it might not be raining there. I’ve also only seen it snow in J-tree once and that was in January.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
