Mark - awesome! I take back the Dane Cook comment. That is the best picture I have ever seen. I had completely forgotten that part in Bruno but thanks for the reminder...hilarious.

Kevin Stricker wrote: Your joking right? Their prices are competitive with any other real climbing gym in Colorado. If you want to pretend to lead climb stick with SCC. I am sure they will need your loyal support in the coming months. I'm sure when your tyke is up and running you will be leaving him at home right? After all climbing gyms should be for adults only.
And Kevin Stricker.....did you read anything I have written in any of these posts? My issue isnt with children in gyms, therefore yes when my child comes of age I will be bringing him to the gym with me...however he will ALWAYS be supervised until he reaches the point that he does not need to be. My statement was that being centrally located this gym will become that new Birthday party spot with lots of unsupervised youths running rampantly throughout. If thats your thing, to each his own. I am sure this gym will be very successful and I hope it is.

Is there any way that the early sign-up prices for membership could extend into next week? A lot of people (including me) are going to be out of town since that is the day after Christmas and all. I can guarantee that my husband and I both will be buying annual memberships and any discount is appreciated.

Jason,
We appreciate that no one would want to climb in that sort of environment. As I said before, that won't be the case at our gym. We will have a separate room and wall for B-Day parties, large groups will be scheduled in off hours, and we will have staff on the floor at all times monitoring for issues (unsafe climbers, unsupervised youth, etc)

With all this talk about kids nobody mentioned seniors. What kind of deal will seniors get.?

Good luck with the new gym.

That sounds good, the one thing that irritated me with several gyms over the years was the daily birthday parties that pretty much take over the entire area. They get done with their rope sessions then give them freedom to do what ever they want, which usually means you have to worry about falling on kids while bouldering or something to that effect.

Alex,

I appreciate your attention to all of the concerns brought forward. Like I said, I will definitely be in there sooner or later and I really hope things go well for you guys. Sounds like you have already come up with solutions for the negatives that opening a new gym might pose. Props to you and good luck.

Place looks awesome. Sure wish we had that kind of framing design available cost wise when we built our new wall here in IL this past summer. Awesome looking curving cracks!

Peter-
Thanks and good point. I just changed our rates so that seniors (65+) and students will get the same rates. My grandmother climbed for the first time at 97 so we mean it when we say we welcome all ages.

As for the folks out of town, if you e-mail us at info@climbingtherock.com or call 719-634-9099 on 12/26, we will get back to you as soon as we can and take payment over the phone or honor the price when you get back. Just make sure you let us know you want the pass.

Marketing research doesn't get more incisive and in depth than right here. Good thread all told and full of useful information for gym owners.

Agreed. Not trying to give Alex or the other owners a hard time. Having a top notch gym in town that will compare with Denver and Boulder gyms will be very good for, and build a strong climbing community in the Springs. We appreciate you addressing the concerns and suggestions of the community which just might eventually make this gym one of the best in Colorado.

Peter...still climbing at 70. We need to pay you to come teach us how to live a long happy climbing life. Some of my 50 year old partners are questioning wether they'll still be able to climb in 10 years. My partners and I climb at the gym most Wednesday nights. Would love to meet you.

Alex, I hope you don't mean me, I'm planning to still be climbing with you when you hit 50.

If you haven't been to the new climbing gym located on N. Nevada, make it a point to go. They have done a fabulous job. I have been to a few climbing gym's in my time and this one is at the top of the list.

I happened to be in town for the opening day so I swung by to try out the new gym. I have to say, everyone did a fantastic job. Both of the other Colo spgs gyms have been...unsatisfactory to say the least. This one seems like a top notch facility. Most importantly (at least to me), the routes were interesting. Everything I climbed had at least a handful of really clever or tricky sequences to work out. Thanks for putting in a quality place to climb when I visit home

Thanks to all who came down and tried out the gym today. It was really good to meet some of you for the first time. Really satisfying to see so many people enjoying the routes. Nice job on the FA of the gym crack Kevin!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
