Why do you Climb?

I climb because it makes me feel. |

I wasn't making a comparison by the way, I had just seen something about Clinton and wanted to poke fun at the pervert (for getting caught not for what he did) though I guess I should have mentioned a cigar or something instead.Clinton who? Who honestly gives two shits about his little fling. I'm not real interested in Tiger Wood's personal drama either. He's still a great golfer (I guess- don't follow golf). I simply thought it was a bizarre way of saying "because I felt like it" when you added the "authority" part. It's your quote. |

It's just how they are, so they are like that even when they climb. Disturbed people can still climb, and climbing does not have to eliminate this disturbance. I'm a pretty good example of that... Having said all this I have given a little thought to try and pin point what it is about climbing that makes me do it, and miss it when I don't. For me I think it's the exposure. Being high up on an airy arête that is easy enough for me to climb safely, but exposed enough to feel the thrill. I can't get that feeling from kayaking, and definitely not caving. I am also fascinated by climbing movements. Living in Sweden where it's cold, wet and dark during the winter, I climb indoors a lot. I don't get the thrill of exposure in there (I keep my T-shirt on) but I love it anyway. In there I can focus on climbing movements alone. Climbing something efficiently without struggling really feels good to me, and also working out the moves on a hard route and putting them together. |

William Shatner, in his infinite wisdom, poetically illuminates the human fixation with climbing... |

I started climbing when I was 16 mostly because of an inferiority complex. I felt being only 140 lbs and 5'9" at the time that I was smaller and less powerful than most guys I looked up to. Also, I was very scared of heights. I thought that I might get over this fear and somehow look at myself as more of a hardman if I tried Rock Climbing. A friend told me about Climbing who at the time was interested in Withcraft. Alister Crowley was some dude into Whichcraft and he was also a climber, so my friend thought that Climbing must be cool. Anyhow we tried it and I got hooked on the whole sport. The ethics; the bolt wars of the 70's and all of that were amazing to me. He I am 38 years later, still into it. Still afraid of heights, but with many climbs done and enjoyed over the years!! |

I had a TV when Clinton was president, I haven't seen a TV in well over a year now but I guess we got a new president and some other stuff is going on. I also stopped using yahoo mail so I don't even get my updates there anymore. As for the "authority" part, not sure what to say, I'm unemployed and have started picking cloths up off the floor and wearing them to climb if they don't smell so it clearly doesn't apply to me, plus I'm a charming, charismatic guy so chicks naturally like me without much effort. I said it cause the president is about the most authority you can have in this Country. You're not projecting at all are you? I don't wanna offend you if you're an intern or something. |

for the chicks. i haven't reaped much of the rewards yet but i'm sure they'll notice me eventually if i climb hard, scary routes. |

I had years away from the adventures of the outdoors and took upon radically different indoor adventures. Replacing the adrenaline with drugs. And scoring them was my climbing!! Now I realize the only way I get to know anyone worth knowing is through climbing or other high intensity sports!"Don't trust anyone who doesn't go above 10,000 ft." E V E R.... |
