I don't care how eloquent your post was, the fact of the matter is that you didn't have the guts and the respect for Mike to actually say something eloquent to his face. The beer has no impact on you, but if the noise is irritating- SPEAK UP! You are showing the most disrespectful etiquette of all by A)Not talking to Mike to his face, and B) Not bothering to say anything after posting up the moment you got home from climbing, and C) Pigeon-holing the entire SLCA after one encounter- especially since you have clearly never participated in any of the SLCA sponsored events. I'm pretty sure you just pointed out the definition of indiscriminate hate. You should be ashamed of yourself, and your lack of tact.
puh-leeeze!! back the f* off of Teleit - I for one have been in the same type of situation several times and the most recent time when I 'spoke up' about it, no matter how eloquent I was, I was called a bitch and told to mind her own damn business just like you are doing to Teleit now. I've even had rocks thrown at me 'cause I asked some drunken assholes near me at the same crag to simply chill out a little.
This goes to all of you who keep saying 'teleit should have just talked to the guys first' --> when there is a big group of guys drinking and carrying on (wielding crowbars or some such), yeah sometimes it is a bit intimidating to go over and ask them to quiet down. Granted I'm more paranoid, but I think the same goes for most people who'd like to avoid confrontation....or injury for that matter.
I agree with y'all Teleit shouldn't have associated all of SLCA with one incident, but thank gosh Mike White was chill enough to come on here and speak up.

Finally some sanity comes to this thread...only on MP can you get tossed for simply wanting a peaceful experience when you go to the mountains. This thread is entertaining...Mike does a heck of a lot of good for our crags, but he's is quite raw...untamed & unplugged...A package deal!

Ok lets turn this northern utah forum/train wreck into something productive.

My new favorite saying is "GO BIG OR GO HOME" so here we go.

The slca has a new paid membership program(only 25 bucks).

For the next 2 weeks I will add 5 dollars to every new membership, Not to exceed 300 from me.

I will pay my 30 tonight if I have time to get the ball going.

It's time to put your money where your mouth is!!!!

If I have ever offended you, pissed you off with a post or hit on your woman at the gear swap, Then this is your chance to take money right out of my pocket.

Lets make mikey pay bigtime!!!

I would like to thank everyone for your support over the years, and I figured this would be a good way to thank you.

Do the math $$$$$.

Love

Mikey

P.S. No I am not drunk. Dead Serious.

Oh,I didn't realize you were supposed to act a certain way when you are outside. Maybe you should post the rules at the trail head. I was at the gate boulder the other day and these guys were drinking beer and they had their shirts off. I think they were spansered by Five ten, should I call and complain?

I think taleit is getting his ass kicked because of how he went about dealing with the situation. intimidating or no, that doesn't mean you shouldn't at least try to say something to the offenders face. Espcially if your next plan of action is to go and post on a popular public forum. it's like tattling. didn't he learn about that in kindergarten? given the fact that mike has been so polite since it has been pointed out to him, i think it's fair to say that it would have been just fine to ask him to keep it down to his face. go ahead and post up AFTER you have spoken to the offending climbers and they have subsquently thrown rocks at you or whatever, but before is tactless. speak up, or shut up. these are the ethics of life.

and, as pointed out before, don't bitch that people were drinking and swearing. people can do that all they want. complain about the noise level if anything.

PS. where is taleit? the offending party has apologised, and gotten no response. was this a hit and run?
TinaTurner · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Oct 2009 · Points: 0

Wow, thanks for the critique! You're an even angrier person than me! I was not actually trying to come off as offensive as I apparently did to you, so I apologize for my tone. Leah, I think it's really unfortunate that you have received the response you have from climbers in your community when you confront them. I have never been so unfortunate, but maybe time and people irritating enough that I need to confront them will prove that confronting climbers is bad news bears.

Hoppameleon: Way to lecture me on my lack of tact, then proceed to flip my kindergarten jab back on to me, and then complain about my spelling. You must be the ambassador for spelling and grammar! Maybe you're being a bit hypocritical?

Hoppameleon wrote: FYI, she did "go ahead and post up after" shit's happened to her. Lay off, badass.
Um, I wasn't talking about her. She has had the courage to confront people before, so IMO she can post up all she wants. Taleit on the other hand never said anything to their face, and went straight to the post up. And, as this is a forum where people frequently give their opinion, MY opinion is that it is uncouth to post about a person or organization when you haven't talked to them to their face first. That's not a love of confrontation, it's just basic ethics. I'm sure at work when someone is causing you grief you just go straight to your boss, because that's definitely the adult way to handle it.

Everything I have said has been my opinion, and most everything on this forum is opinion based. But as this thread has turned into a bitch slapping mess, I will leave you with this:

Do you have any idea who I am? I am THE most bad-ass 5.10b girl climber in the wasatch, and I tell myself that every day.

Come on people Throw down some cash or I will throw my cheap crowbar at ya!! You dont have to be a slc local or even a climber for hells sake. The slca benefits everyone that use the canyons. Hell my mother even joined.
So it seems my mom has more to bring to the table than some of you posers.

We need to keep in mind that we all climb everywhere and we need to support local organizations like this on every road trip we take.

When you sign up you can choose where you want your money to go.
Rebolting,Crag Day, Graffiti Removal Ect..
I clicked the other box and typed in kegs so, if 5 more people joined and typed in kegs the I could pick one up next week on my way home from work.

Me thinking yurt and a ski in kegger.

I have fully benefitted from all of the work that the SLCA has put in over the years. I submitted my membership. Thanks Mike for all of your work..and I usually wear a helmet, so feel free to swear all you want while throwing your crowbar, but I'll be wanting a beer if you hit me with it!! Let me know if you want some help in your bolt replacement efforts.
