Just wondering if anyone has seen the new Subaru Commercials where a climber is lowered off a cliff and decks - I personally didn't see the humor and I am a total smart@$$.

no bueno. You would think that they would not want to offend a demographic they are selling to.

Seems like a pretty realistic depiction of "sport rappelling".

at least they were depicted as total douche bags and may not be associated with the actual climbing community. i especially like the fact that his wife holding onto the rope is his anchor.

That is pretty funny actually...

I too thought it was funny. Maybe it's a "Subaru" thing....

I also thought the whole thing was entertaining. I'm not sure how the falling part would offend climbers since the "rappelling technique" was completely absurd.

Yeah, I got a few laughs out of it. The whole commercial was pretty funny actually. Climbers are thicker skinned than to take offense at a little humor, right? I mean, we can take a twenty foot whipper and laugh about it (assuming we don't break anything of course!) but then get our panties in a bunch over that? Nah...

Stupid, not real funny, but I'm not offended.

LMFAO! BTW, "Tits", my wife is offended by your pseudonym. She prefers, Fun-Bags McGee.

I don't understand how this commercial is offensive, I couldn't stop laughing. Please explain how it is offensive?

That was great. . . esp. loved the bike shorts sniffing (crotch).
Thanks for sharing!

How are they total douche bags, why do we label everyone that is not apart of our likes and community, It happens all the time, Gaper, Douche bag, Touron, what have you. It's even worse in Skiing. As much as you think that of them, so much of the world probably sees you that way when your out of your element, But I think we are all tourons or totally worthless at something or in some environment, I personally love being a touron and playing dumb, it comes naturally, I think I was born with it.LOL

I can't imagine what people that don't climb think of us, They probably think were dirtball homeless retards or something. And when they actually see someone climbing and they don't know anything about it, what is going on in there mind, with all the gizmos, ropes and lingo. You look at the tourist on the trail that asks you a dumb question and you think total douchbag, and they watch you go off with your weird gear, and they think total retard with no life. It's all relative. How lame would life be if everyone in the world was a climber, well I guess there would be no douchebags and the whole world would be cool.

I hope climbers are better than that to label the outside world because they don't climb. My hats off to the actors in this commercial, They made some coin in a day, that most climbers might not see in years. And they made me laugh!!!

So if you were in the market for a suburu, would you really not buy it based on this commercial because you are a climber?

Is this really what climbers think of this commercial,

I don't know whats funnier, the commercial or some of the climbing communities reaction to it?

Definitely more ridiculous than offensive.

Ummm, did you watch the commercial? My comment wasn't a judgment of anyone in the real world. They're caricatures. The dude rappels off a cliff 'anchored' to his wife, who's standing next the cliff edge, holding the rope in her bare hands. They're portrayed as douche bags. If I had to guess, I'd say the agency laughed as they were thinking up the characters in the commercial.

Relax and try to have some fun...

I tried to be offended, but then I laughed my ass off.

I found that line amusing as well, and I agree. The further you establish yourself from the "norm" the less is expected from you a a functioning member of society and all the more time you have to be out doing what you love.
