Pic from Wiki

Actually saw one a few months back whilst driving to the parking lot. Thought it was just some kid's toy -- but then it moved!

They get their name from their taste for other snakes and are reportedly immune to venom.

I'll add a hint for your game:

They're master escape artists.

Yes! I saw one up there last year and started asking the question about black on red and you're dead or black on yella, kill a fella.

Houdini Snake? Yeah, I dunno what's its called. :-)

Red on black you're okay, Jack.
Red on yellow, will kill a fellow

Anyway, it's just unique to see one in the wild; to see a rattler is still uncommon, but this one, I would think is pretty rare at N Table

Buff -
I saw him on the trail two years ago just a few yards up from the lot.
Abandoned pet Pythons have now overrun the swamps in Florida. These guys look a little friendlier.

I believe this is the King Snake. Not venomous but it eats venomous snakes. He must be snacking on all the rattlers up there. Kings are often confused with Corral Snakes which are quite venomous. Like Buff said, Red on black, you ok jack. Red on yellow will kill a fellow.

Maybe a herpetologist will chime in.

It's a Florida Kingsnake, but what are those doing out here!?

Buff Johnson · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Dec 2005 · Points: 1,145

okay, don't go that literally from the pic, maybe, unless someone gave it the toss.

The one I saw was about as small though

I saw one of these in the flatirons once. Rare to see compared to rattlers but they live on the front range.

Ha!

I had one of those crawl into my haulbag while aid soloing in Yosemite. I was 100' up the first pitch trying to shake it out of the haulbag with the haul line and trying to see if it was yellow on black or black on yellow.

Since then I've learned there are no coral snakes in Yosemite (or Colorado).

There are a variety of milk snakes in Mexico, New Mexico, Utah, and I could believe they might be around. Not sure what else it might be.

I think in this day and age, it should be the Latte-Banded-HighPositionOfEitherGender-HillsideSnakeFrappachino

& yes, we should put some in the Wood to help TommyBoy

Mountain King Snake... My Vote Really cool snakes... Anything that can kill and eat Rattle Snakes has my vote. I had a rattle snake chase me down the trail from Lone Peak in Utah. Very interesting.
