Has anyone done any bouldering in the area near the 50 Year Trail (mtn bike); north of Golder Ranch Rd, east of Equestrian Trail? This is north of the boundry of Catalina State Park. I hiked around out there yesterday while it was cloudy and saw miles of boulders. Not all of it is good, but there may be enough to make it worth the trip.

Hi Chris! Logan and I have looked at these boulders too while biking the trail--some of it looks super fun. We thought it'd be great to ride out with bouldering pads. I'm a terrible mtn biker, but if I had a pad on my back I could just somersault when I go over the handlebars, it'd be great.

BITD, I think it was Frank Abels and I (Bob might have been along and John Gault might have been there, it's all fuzzy) did some bouldering in the area. The roads and trails have really changed since then so all I can say was the stuff we did was near the golf course and I only vaguely recall it. Nothing stellar jumps to mind.

I went up there and checked it out. I was able to find a couple of okay problems but much much fewer than you'd expect with so much rock. I was a bit disappointed by rock quality (grainy), but only checked out a small area. Check it out, there's a ton of rock out there, I could have missed the better quality areas.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
