BLM camping outside Zion?

I've camped just outside Rockville, next to the Virgin River, a number of years ago. I wanted to help out a couple friends that are heading down tomorrow, and I can't remember exactly where it was. If anyone has any useful beta, such as east or west of Rockville?, I would greatly appreciate it. I vaguely remember it was half way between 2 mile markers? Anything would help. Thanks!

Mark, I don't have any personal knowledge of the situation, but this thread might have the information you're looking for...

west of rockville, between MM 23 and 24. If coming from Zion, go through springdale, through rockville, keep an eye out for MM 23, then turn in at the third (or fourth? i think third) little reflector post on the left side (river side) of the highway. There's usually some sort of marker on the post (varies between road cones, pbr boxes, reflective tape, etc).

The thread linked in John's response is a bit outdated. BLM closed Mosquito Cove (the place described above) for a day, but the city of springdale tossed some weight around to keep it open. Apparently they need the dirtbags (or at least the service industry folks who sometimes reside there). I was last there for the month of april 09, and it's alive and kickin, no closure problems whatsoever.

Enjoy Zion and its wonderful dirtbaggin opportunities. At the risk of being a touch preachy, don't shit there, clean up a bit of extra trash, and DON'T SHIT THERE. This spot is a precious, albeit disgusting resource on the impecunious climber's circuit.

Watch out for black widows in the dust bowl there. Saw a ton when I was there 2 years ago. Got in late the first night didn't feel like setting up a tent, so just threw out a tarp and crashed. Woke up to a black widow crawling right in front of my face!
