Marty Karabin accident, Etc.

Hey RSClimb. A lot of people do not get health insurance because it is not offered through their employment. Health insurance is cost prohibitive for some people and some are not even able to BUY health insurance due to their medical history which makes them uninsurable. Should those people not climb? Marty could have just have easily been injured crossing the street or course setting at PRG when he was injured. So go easy. And Marty isn't begging. If you don't want to give, don't give.

Hope you are feeling better Marty. Will you be able to make it to the Climbmax fundraiser? Hope so!

XOXO

Hey RS

In a perfect world we'd all have insurance, trophy wives & husbands, one day a week jobs that pay 100k/year, and climb 5.17. This post is all about friends helping a friend. We didn't corner you in a dark alley and demand your wallet so please surf on over to anonjerksrus.com and post your pithy insurance comments over there.

RS climb:

Well I havn't paid the price yet since I have not received the bill. I do not work for a large corporation that gives me free insurance, but yet if you do the math what individual insurance really costs times 12 months per year times 20 years, it really comes out the same. READ THE HOSPITAL SECTION AGAIN! Even with insurance you will experience the same hospital visit that I did. Bedpan imbedded in your ass, nobody around to help you, overdrugged, clueless hospital staff etc. Maybe them seeing you with that insurance paper they would have kept you in there for a few extra days so they get the FULL value out of your paperwork. Maybe they will have to keep you in there for the extra two months like other femur patients I saw there, who had your lucky insurance paperwork as well. I was out in less than a week, pretty good for such a major injury! By the way, are you related to Andre H? In my life I promote climbing for everybody else, shows that I have a lot of friends. You got that paperwork but do you have any friends? I am not a charity case, I am the flying zebra superhero that still has one good leg that surly can kick your ass!

Nice one Marty:) Supraman's got your back.

rsclimb wrote: Or maybe I just created another account knowing how it would go over.
So why then rsclimb are you skulking around in the shadows? Hiding behind the veil of a new user account just to avoid criticism smacks of cowardice in my opinion. If you really aren't that thin skinned you would have used your real account. I'm all for freedom of speech but at least man up, take responsibility for your words and have the spine to defend your position. That said, if you were hurt and needed help I'd be more than willing to help you despite the things you've said. We are a community of friends after all.

You are probably right...his line of work would require a hefty premium. I guess I let my dislike for the dude get in my way. But I still think I would be selling everything rather than ask my friends for money. Just my opinion.

Marty

superhero? More like running around in tights that scream "I'm queer." But I guess that's why I've never been your fan, and the run-ins I've had with you at the gym. You seem to think you are a god of climbing and treat people like a jerk sometimes. Maybe that's why I decided to be one.

See you at the gym...

Hey Marty,
Just came across this thread. Dude!! You are one badass mofo. That's one killer line of stitches. Your hospital stories are horrible. WTF? Which hospital were you in? I've spent a lot of days in the hospital and have never, ever been treated even slightly poorly. WTF?

Hang in there, my friend and, remember when it all feels like it's caving in on you... feet are overrated!

best,
Mal

Marty, you are one right on dude. I formally am giving the autograph crown back to the king. For the first three days of the show I commanded an incredible lead, only to lose in the final stretch. I came home with 130 unique signatures from climbing's most famous and infamous... minus about six from Marty himself due to you missing our flight...

Marty you still hold the record at 137 unique autographs! my hat is off to you.

Marty,

I hope you are healing well.

That's quite a harrowing story.

So, stainless, titanium, 3/8", 1/2", wedge, glue-in . . . ? I hear they make good hardware up Utah way . . .

Get well soon Marty! I hope you have a speedy recovery and hope to see you out on real rock soon sans the bedpan.

And don't feed the Trolls/Grievers, they just want attention.

BTW - Titanium screws have worked well in my leg for climbing!

F-paying the medical bills; the way you were treated, the hospital owes you!!! Play those cards right, you have a LOT on them!

The dude is a legend, AND he is man enough to wear zebra tights. What more can you ask for in one perfectly molded human being. Well, there is more - the hair! anyway, now that I have oozed enough about Mr Karabin, time to break out the news. He broke his leg. Wait, no...He BROKE his leg. Hmmm. HE SMASHED THE SH*T out of his femur. 6 feet off the ground. Proof that it can happen to the best of us! El no tiene health insurance-o. Therefore, he is taking on some serious medical bills. Some of you may. We are holding a sale and donating the proceeds to a guy who has put so much in line for us here in the AZ climbing community. Come one, come all.

RS: I am sorry that I treated you poorly I did not mean to do so. But I guess I am apologizing to the air since you are not man enough to disclose yourself to the public. Your words mean nothing as you walk in your invisible tights. Queer no, actually far from it. I am a successful family man with kids and have been married a few times. Me a god of the gym? More like showing every visitor that climbing is awesome and want them to have the greatest time for their money. Maybe you are jealous of my climbing ability and you still suffer with yours so you attack me from the shadows. If tights make me queer, then every pro bike racer, pro wrestler, football player and even superman is a queer in your book. Look around and smell the lycra!!!
I am not sure how you promote climbing, but I have written 27 guides, put up over 400 routes for the community outside with my own money, created the annual Thrash and Dangle Fest which now is in the top 10 competitions in the USA, lead course setter for the Phoenix Rock Gym creating the routes you climb on, own a climbing store, carve the holds you climb on, teach the boy scouts merit badges on the weekends, council member of the Queen Creek Colliation working to save QC, besides Pinnacle Peak, and McDowells. Replaced over 1000 old rusty bolts in the local crags with my own money, Known in 19 countries for my climbing museum and have shook the hands of over 3,000 climbing pros that you read in the magazines every day, and have the signatures to proove it. I am surprised that I have time to write this message.
I thank all of you for your kind words in regards to my accident. Maybe someday RS Climb will stop thinking about himself, and start doing things for others as well.

Hobbling happily, Marty

Marty!!

We miss you at the gym man, Samantha misses your tights. We both wish you the fastest recovery possible. Don't look at the clock too much, time will pass and you'll be back on the rocks quicker than you think.

RSClimb

Marty hasn't once asked for anything concerning his injury. Others, those who care about him, notice his situation and VOLUNTEER to help. Why? Because we like the guy, because we respect all he has done for the climbing community, and for the areas around AZ (Areas I'm sure you climb at)...And because HE WEARS ZEBRA PANTS! (AWESOMENESS). We are just good people, helping another good person who has contributed so much to this sport.

You must really be quite the as$hole. You climb in areas developed by Marty, climb at the gym he sets routes at, and still have the nerve to talk about "begging for money" without even knowing all about the situation.

RS must work for an insurer. Please contact your congressman and urge them to have a public option that will take you, no questions asked no matter what you choose to do with your time. I hope you have a speedy recovery and when I visit my parents down there I will take my kids over to your shop and gym to climb. We always appreciate anyone who sets routes for my kids to climb. Good luck
