The spring bean fest at the Cochise stronghold is scheduled for Saturday April 11, on the west side of the stronghold, near Isle of You. Due to the recession we're going old school this year, and having the traditional potluck. So we ask that everyone bring a little something from the list below:

1) 3 gallons of refried beans
2) 150 tortillas
3) 5 pounds onions
4) 10 pounds tomatoes
5) 3 pounds queso fresco
6) 5 heads lettuce
7) 1 gallon guacamole
8) 2 gallons salsa
9) 10 bags tortilla chips
10) 1 large tub sour cream
11) 150 plates
12) plastic silver ware (150 knives and forks)
13) 150 red plastic beer cups
14) wood (a lot)
15) 10 pounds ground beef

Please post what you can bring, anything will be a big help. If you only want to provide a fraction of one of the listed items please let us know how much you are willing to bring. As always beer will be provided!

Does the Beanmaster care to identify himself?

due to the our current economic status the beanmaster cannot be identified until a later time. :)

I'll bring the tortillas.

I'll also post on the Tucson climbing meetup and let you know what other folks volunteer to bring.

OK, there are two forums (fora??) for the Spring Bean Fest.. so I'll post my initial reply to the other one ( mountainproject.com/v/commu…), here as well...

I have a bunch of stuff left from the last Fall Bean Fest.

  • 10 lbs of refried beans
  • 1/4 gallon of salsa
  • a large box plastic utensils

Also, there is a cash dividend of ~$200 from tshirts that I will pass over to the Bean Master.

Maybe this year the Beanmaster is a Beanmistress.

We will be coming down... we missed the last one due to "our wedding"

We can bring 50 plastic cups, about 10 packages of Torillas, and paper towels and possibly another climbing friend...

Does the road back from Benson go through Patagonia as well? I wanted to go birdwatching on the way back to Rio Rico on sunday...

The bean master this year is indeed a mistress, by birth and not by operation :-) And her name, which can now be released thanks to the stimulus package, is Jennifer.

Anywho, thanks everyone for all the responses, and the offers of help. I'm pretty new to the beanfest thing (been to two) so to be honest I'm not even sure if the food stuff I've listed will be enough. Any feedback on this end would be great. For you guys who've gone to beanfest a lot can you give me beta on this? Last bean fest there seemed to be about 50 or so people there. Is this about right? Do you think this is what I should expect for this one?

Thanks to Bridget, Luis, and Shiloh for volunteering to bring things.

Luis, I'll send Sean over to your side of the building to pick up those things you mentioned.

My wife and I will be there and, since we have a fridge in the van, will bring along: the tub of sour cream, 2 lbs of ground beef, some chicken (since my wife doesn't eat mammal), and a lb of guacamole.

Hey Jen, just let me know when is a good time and I'll bring the stuff (and the $) to my lab. But I'm coming down to the Beanfest on saturday and I'll be happy to bring it then. I can stop by before going climbing and drop everything, so you can do deal with is as you wish...

let me know what do you prefer

see you soon

Just to reconfirm, the bean fest is this weekend and will be in the Isle of You area (since there is plenty of shade around there). Thanks everyone who is bringing food and firewood!

oh yes, we also need lights for the beanfest. We have a lantern, but a couple of more to light up the food would be great!

My partner and I are coming over from NM. We have never been to Cochise, and only moved to the SW a year ago. Looking forward to meeting some other climbers in the area! We will bring onions. If we can round up firewood we will also bring that. We will be there on Friday evening.

See you all there!
