Lay-back crack attack
higher through the grades and clouds
waking, smiling now

Plastic hold junkie
shirt on shirt off consumes him
three tans, ten dollars

runny nose, dripping
in my partner's face

Little pink tricam
Blindly placed in manky choss
Please don't fail me now

Staring at the rain,
Boredom fuels Mountain Project.
Dreams of sunny rock.

Friday showers fall.
Saturday obligations.
Waiting for Sunday.

Tick lists serve to motivate
And to humiliate me.
Damn puny forearms.

Is adventure lived on rock
Worth shaping my life around?
If not, it's too late.

Climb or eat donut?
Muscles sore, rainy outside,
donut is winning.

Stomach tied in knots.
Breath in slow and trust my gear.
Bring on the runout!

Hundreds of feet up.
Ass hurts from hanging belay.
Where is my partner???

Climbing fast and hard
Going to summit this now
How I hate the Pump

Clipping a few bolts
Hanging on a lot of bolts
This route is sand bagged

Fresh air on my face
Looking at the beauty place
The summit reward

Heel-toe, chicken wing.
Did my last piece just fall out?
Five nine plus my ass.

Trapped in my office
I dream of alpine summits
Oh to be there now

I measure my life
By proud lines - is that enough
Aw fuck it... "climbing!"

hoodoos speak to me
under old man winters moon
I drink fine scotch and reply

who knows the sequence
to unlock the towers heart
setting free the dream

"Un-vertigo":

I dream of walls.
The world turned ninety degrees:
My life, but sideways.

For People I know:

Run-out, Rated X.
Sweat cascades from leader's brow.
Lunge, or deck awaits.

For me:

5.10: distant dream.
Strength long spent, I gasp, I wheeze.
Too much Tastee Freeze.

I climb Port Hills Choss,
Because that is what we have,
But it is still fun.

Take take, f*ck, just take.
I don't like this climb anymore.
Nor this haiku too.

Lifting weights builds bulk
Climbing made more difficult
This haiku sucks too.

Clip clip clip all day,
I am a sport climber, yes,
But I climb trad too.

My forearms are pumped,
Hangdogging this steep jug fest,
Will I redpoint it?

Mountain Project sucks
Type type type to waste the day
Why do I do this?

here are a few from my silly collections, not all climbing directly but close enough.

8/28/07

Seductive bright darkness
Full-moon monkey gargoyle waits
for his ecstasy

Exploding silence
swallowed whole by the vastness
shape-shifting through space

free fall to full wings
glowing moonlight caresses
ecstatic monkey

11/07 new aid line in the fisher's

The Fear Factory
drenched in it – all alone
how else could it be?

I want to retreat
Scared, I feel my sickness
Where is sanity?

I keep on crawling
momentary victory
but soon I’m bawling . . .

Dragon’s Nest

a weakness presents
simple, yet almost too much
up we find a way

on top of the world
behemoths tower below
enter a new realm

Adrift on the breeze
borne of dragon’s nest
two flying monkeys

me and jimmy p
flying amongst the titans
could better it be?

12/16/07

snow covered fields
a bright night. Hung at high noon
corona half moon.

cold steel’s flesh caress
coyotes howl and dogs bark
the snow leaper waits . . .

above in the dark
a blissful silence sings
monkey flies – night wings

alone in the air
a raptor lands in the snow
was anyone there?

Titanic dreams

Here I am again
alone with a behemoth
commit this same sin?

Hours to the top
it’s too windy for me to . . .
contemplate the drop

relief, I can’t go
smoke calms my unsteady nerves
no wind, now I know . . .

beckoning abyss
a high-noon desert stand-off
relax into bliss

every nerve on fire
visuals so fantastic
fueling my desire

so far away . . . safe!
open wide my lovely wings
smiling, is my face

feet hit desert sand
alone once again, moments . . .
like this make the man

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
