Devils Tower partener April ~9-13th

Hello everyone,

Anybody interested in a Easter Devils Tower trip? Ive got a few days off from school and am feeling the call of the Tower! Dates a pretty flexable within the range of the 7th to the 13th, even just a long weekend of Fri-Sun would work.

Im 22, have been climbing for ~5 years, only a year of trad. Im comfortable leading .9/.10a and have a rack, rope and wheels.

Ive climbed at the tower a few other times, somewhat know my way around. I will be driving from Billings and wouldnt be against picking you up/carpooling. And of course itll be weather dependent...

what's up with the weather situation though?? Is it currently climbable (like not ice climbing)

Check to make sure there is no snow on the tower before heading out. I've been shut down by snow in late April at Devil's.

Hey, they just got 2+ feet of snow and are expecting more soon.

Ya the weather has me wondering too. Im just gonna call the NPS down there and ask for a snow report, then Ill know if its yay or nay.
Here in Billings its been teasing us these last few weeks, if gets nice and warm out, almost dries everything then that night just enough precip comes down to wet the sandstone again... Im jonesin for some spring weather!

ya that sucks. This may be more of a summer thing.

I live about 20 minutes from the Tower and we have had some snow and there is some more expected. I hope to get over there this weekend and check some ledges out. I'll let you know what it looks like. I might be interested on that Sunday the 11th. It all will depend on the weather.

We got plenty of snow but this week is supposed to be warm so some may open. Let me know if you're still coming maybe we can work something out.

hmm, I was waiting to hear what you reported back, plenty of snow isnt what I was hoping for. lol

If youd do me the favor of updating this thread again later in the week, like wed/thur, Id really appreciate it. The weather does look pretty good...ish. 50s and sun is very doable, cloudy...im not sure.

Ahh, yes THOSE grizzlies, the ones with the long ninja tails? Ya, Ill have to watch out for them, or just get a bigger knife. ;c)

I'll keep you posted. Most of the south side is closed due to the falcons, so we'll see what happens with the melt. Sunday after 10 am would be when I could go this weekend so keep that in mind.

Weather is looking pretty shitty, Sat and Sun is 50% chance of rain/snow. If you still want to make a go of it let me know and I'll keep my fingers crossed but maybe in a week or two. Either way let me know and maybe we can make something work later.

ya, I think Ill save the gas money for a latter trip. Once the weather is looking better, eh.
