An open letter to Bob .

Without Bob D, this site is lessened.

There'd also be no-one to match my sheer strength, intellect, and feat of arms; maybe Lane, but he's bald. Maybe Hanson, but he's sooo old.

That leaves Lee and his mighty harem -- your days are numbered too my friend.

Tom Hansen was originally hired by the Feds to be a special liaison to Bulgarians. Not sure what his duties entailed.

I couldn't come halfway close to matching your attributes Mark. The Harem is another story. Those Ladies are awesome!

Tim, I kinda saw it this way too.

agreed, I think Bob is trying to make a point and show there is a bigger picture involved. IMO they are his toys & his time spent in creating them and it's his choice to with whom he shares

In my opinion Rec.climbing was a cesspool. So was Bouldering.com...just opinion as I never posted at rec.climbing and maybe a couple of times at bouldering.com.

As to my toys as your call them...door swings both ways. It's my work and I have the right to do what I see fit. There is really no benefit to me on a monetary basis (in fact all the new routes I posted in BC I should have kept to my self till my new book comes out) to post routes and photo...only trying to enhance the site and the user experience. And if any legit user can receive a verbal beat down from some AC and nothing is done about it I would rather have my work removed and I would rather more on.

Pretty simple.

The likes of me? I'm offended. Delete that.

I do apologize for the name I called you. That was wrong. In the original thread the answer that you gave me to my question, I expected so I shouldn't have been offended by your comment but I was. Instead of answering my question you chose to take a shot at me BEFORE I started flinging crap. Instead of answering my question you turned it around on me and said that it was obvious that I had never established new routes and this is why I didn't understand your ethic, still avoiding answering my question. When you did decide to answer it, your reply was simply that this has been done for years. I already knew that but was looking for an explanation as to why. Someone else had to do that for you. Maybe in your case some jerk stole the rope because he has a problem with it being there given the history of that area. Maybe some n00b took it because they thought it was booty, Which is also dumb. Regardless, I do agree that it never should have been taken and should be returned. I also stand by my question though. There was nothing wrong with asking.

I have climbed many of your routes and have used some of your valuable beta on this site. Regardless of my personal feelings towards you and yours towards me, I don't think you should leave and I know many people feel the same. I've been on this site for years now, ever since I started climbing really and I would hate to see someone who has contributed so much like you have to go.

When I disagree with you, I'll keep the name calling out of it. I'm ashamed of my short fused ways when it comes to you. What can I say, you have the same fuse towards me as history would show. On the same note, I also hope that you will take a look at how you treat people too. Some of the name calling bull shit that you have to deal with just might be minimized if you do.

Talking smack from the comforts of internet anonymity is lame but there’s no way to fully police it. Web forums are what they are and this place is about as good as it gets. I think the admins here set the bar pretty high, thanks for the good work.

Old School Politicians have a saying, which is long gone now. "You can disagree without being disagreeable". I like a good flame war as much as the next guy, but the internet is not all wine and roses. It's the personal attacks involving language that you would never say face to face that irks me. People that make up a name and have only posted once, just to cause trouble should be kept in check. I'm a habitual profile checker and this helps knowing where the AC's of the forum are coming from.

Thanks for apology...as to my anwser it was the best I could do..you asked and I gave it. People who don't do new sport routes find it hard to understand the mechanics of them and the process. In a lot a cases it's a whole lot of work cleaning and prepping...hence leaving the rope saves time and some effort. Also a lot these questions are leading into something I have no longer a need to debate...style or ethics...something that has been beaten to death on this site and others...hence my short and somewhat blunt answers.

As to our history...I recall it being quite short and not enough to affect your or my life. I think we should keep it that way.

Holy shit,
I've never heard Bob squirm like this. You all better watch out, Bob will reach through your monitor and ring ye' head. By the way, Bob leaving this sight is just a ploy. Now we'll have to visit him at Seven, and no info until you buy a drink. Bob you can run, but you can't hide. Please don't over monitor this sight. I usually only have time to troll around 10:00 at night or so, I don't want to miss a thing...

Yeah history really sucks. I hate learning about where this sport called climbing comes from and who was on the cutting edge of it(still is). I hate learning from more experienced people. Oh, and I really hate it when people are setting up new routes for me to enjoy. Possibly the most ridiculous thing of all is when they do all that stuff and then expect a little common courtesy (don't steal, duh) from the rest of us. On top of that, they ask for it back non-threateningly; appealing to the good nature inside of us. What are they thinking?
George Bell · · Boulder, CO · Joined Jan 2001 · Points: 5,050

Hi Bob, sorry to hear of the mess and that all your good stuff has been removed from the site. I hope you stick around. I remember the old rec.climbing days and there was a lot of the same flaming. Whenever I would start getting upset I'd take a deep breath, then wait 24 hours before posting anything. This last tip is highly recommended, by the time a day goes by many times you can't even recall why you were getting so upset, and the thread has drifted by for so long it its on a different subject. Of course, it can be hard to do if somebody is attacking you, maybe even makes you look bad. But you can always claim you were climbing and too busy to log on.

Amen! Let's log out and go climbing!
Bob, Thanks for all you have added. Please don't let this get you down. The only way they win is if we quit. Persevere.

Hey Bob, Sorry to see you go. Seems you've left this forum for the time being but I assume your still lurking. The first year I moved to the Springs I was told you were any number of things about you but I held my judgement. Glad I did after seeing the impact you've had on the CO climbing community. We've never met but I'm finding your just as an opinionated, do what I want SOB as I was told and I am willing to respect that, difference of opinion or not. Hopefully this forum won't sink to certain depths that have already been achieved on other anonymous forums that seems to have caused a bit of this strife. Go have some fun and forget the wankers causing trouble.

I vote for bob to stay.

You're an invaluable asset to the site's knowledge bank and climbing community in large. Don't worry about the dicks and remember how many friendly lurkers there are in contrast to the overzealous haters.

I vote you to stay. I've been out of town a week. We seldom agree, but stay you should. A hex on the assholes bothering you.
