I thought the standard route followed the chimney...

that's the way I went (the chimney) one move of 5.7 protected by a #1 camalot, fixed gear (2 or so welded cams) lower down on the route.

Nelson's guidebook says to go right after the lieback, which was fairly easy. I'm sure you could go either way.
