Yep, saw your gear, I think. Saw some people pick it up. They asked us if it was ours. It wasn't. I assume they took it home. It was getting dark.

Post a message on the lost and found section of this site. It was a fluke that I saw this post. If you need more info I may be able to give you a name via PM.

Why was the gear sitting there all day? Nothing wrong with that. Just curious. Greg

Well, lets entertain the possibility here that the people were honest. If it was nearing dark, and there were clearly no others around, I'd probably have picked it up tooo, knowing I WOULD return it, but not being sure others would... then go post notes everywhere I could think of to try to reunite cam and owner...

Speaking of which, keep in mind that not everyone uses this site (though it does seem a majority do) I think it's a good idea to put a note up at the gyms and shops as well, and also at the Eldo Visitor's center, and look for one from the picker-upper.

Just to clarify to the people that question why I asked this question. I routinely leave lots of gear at the base of climbs especially when doing multipitch. Though, I usually put it in a pack or at least tuck it in one spot. The gear in Eldo was stewn about on a rock or two, spread out as if the owner were right there putting together various racks appropriate for the various routes nearby. No problem. Only thing, they were not around. Again, no problem. I was just curious.

My guess, the people that picked up the gear have the best intentions.

Matt I'll pm you with some info that may help. Greg

To each his own. If the party has obviously left the site, it's not such an awful thing to try to get them their gear back.
I was trying to get the point across that perhaps the person you seem to insinuate is some shade of a thief may indeed have the best of intentions.

Thanks to everyone who had a little input. I really appreciate Greg getting me in touch with the person that had my gear. All is well again... gear found and returned.

Hi all, glad the world is spinnning again in the right direction on its correct axis etc, HOWEVER FWIW, I think this might be a good time to emphasize that although there are plenty of users here, I would claim its a very small part of ANY LOCAL CLIMBING COMMUNITY that posts here reads here regularly enough to be sure to see a post, even for the front range CO community. And just using myself as an example, I think there are many who check here "regularly but infrequently" and I certinaly miss way more posts than I see, as I only see posts from "most recent" on the front page, and a small subset at that.

POINT? although a great way to attempt to retrieve lost gear all that sort of thing, it might be to your detriment to assume any post here is seen my a large portion of the climbing community??

As evidenced by your posts, you apparently do not have better things to do.

You're also pretty quick to judge, which is never appreciated. Your comments are poorly received because of the accusations, but I think your idea about leaving it at the Ranger hut is a good recommendation. You should suggest it as a better way to ensure gear finds a home rather the smear other people. As evidenced by the fact Matt got his gear back, they were NOT thieves.

Anyway, I'm sure both the people who picked up the gear and you have the best intentions. Do as you see most logical/ethical because nobody has a legal obligation to return gear.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
