Spencer:
I like to stay at the Riverside Inn. They've got cabins and rooms and offer a 20% discount for ice park members. Scott and Lynde have been very accomodating (i.e. willing to negotiate) in my experiences there and there always a great group of folks hanging out there.

FYI just passing this email along... official Opening date

~o~x~o~x~o~x~o~x~o~x~o~x~~o~x~o~x~o~x~~o~x~o~x~o~x~~o~x~o~x~o~x~

With snow falling and temps dropping, it that time to bring out your gear and head to Ouray for some ice climbing. The Ouray Ice Park is scheduled to open Dec. 20

Your continued support has helped the Ouray Ice Park to:

* Order the piping for the new "Got-Stump" area; which will add 12 new climbs to the gorge
* Create trails to the new section as this letter goes out
* Increase the size of the pipe that delivers water to the ice park. More volume = fatter ice
* Offer lighted evening climbing for families and kids on the 3rd Saturday of each month

On the Fest side

The Fest kicks off on Thursday night, Jan. 8, with our first slide show presentation by Ouray's own Clint Cook.

* This year we have over 500 instructional clinic spots open for the general public to participate
* Clinic registration opened Wednesday, Nov. 5, 9:00 AM Mountain Time
* Great evening slideshows, being presented by Clint Cook, Raphael
* Silent and Live Auctions and a new online auction
* Great food and after hour parties
* The kids climbing college is back for its 4th year
* Mic'ed demos with the world's best climbers
* The Fest is going "green" with a zero waste goal
* Great climbing camaraderie

Use of the park remains free, but help is always needed. Funding for
operation and expansion continues to be a challenge that is only met by relentless volunteer work and voluntary contributions. Visit www.ourayicepark.com for more info and to join. The revenue received from members enables the Ice Park to continue as a free climbing facility and helps the Park pay for annual expansion and improvements.Your membership also provides the cardholder discounts at many local lodges, restaurants and merchants.

Sincerely,

Ouray Ice Park Staff

It looks like there will be a lot of MP.com & SP.com people down there. We should all try and meet up one evening at least for dinner/drinks. Who's in?

I've never ever done any ice climbing before but I am heading up to Ouray with a few friends to learn and am super stoked! I've spent the last week watching ice climbing videos getting excited for it. I look forward to meeting you all!

I think that sounds like a great idea. I am in if I am going to be around. I might sneak off to Cody to get away from things.

Also if anyone is need of a room for the fest. I have a room in a house with some nice folks that is $250 for January 5-11th. Can't beat that deal for a house. Its right by the ice park as well.

So is everyone amped up and ready for the fest next week. Looks like it should be a great time. Don't forget to bring that wild outfit for the big party on Saturday night.

YES!

Show of hands: Who from MP.com will be there next week? We should maybe try and meet up for dinner/drinks at least one night. I will be down there with Dan Dalton (Dan the Mountain Man) starting Tuesday.

any 'ol night works for me. I am not familiar with anything in Ouray, so I have no opinion on locales. On another note, does Ouray have a grocery store?

yep, but you'll want to bring stuff in. also don't forget to hit the atm. there's stuff in montrose also if you hit the drive and then remember something you needed (like cash). -- bring a robe, swim trunks (can be optional), towel, flipflops.

roberto -- those kaylands are still going strong for moi -- 4 or 5 seasons now.

if everyone wants to agree on a place for beer/food we could meet
suggestions:

burgers/sweet potato fries = Gold Bar (corner 8th)
nachos/fajitas = Buen Tiempo
post-dinner pub (better beer ontap) = O'Brien's or The Outlaw

VIRGIN SEEKS ROOM AT THE INN

Ice Fest first-timer has as yet failed to secure lodging. Looking to share $$ and space.
Laid back, considerate, chaste (yeah, right!), not pregnant as far as I'm aware...

Arriving later today and camping at Ridgeway unless I get lucky.

Cheers!

I'll be heading down after work and camping out in my van. Worst case would be at the Walmart in Montrose! My number is 720.231.3248. I'd love a bite or a beer or whatever!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
