Grand Teton moved to Telluride?

Can someone who is familiar with the San Juans in CO confirm whether this photo being used to advertise Telluride really exists and if so, what peak is it?

It looks to me like the Grand Teton in Wyoming with maybe some photoshop work of the surroundings. I emailed them and they insisted it was taken in the San Juans, but did not specify where.

A friend of mine who guides in Jackson also thinks it's the Grand.

Any opinions?

99.99999% certain it is the Grand. That's damn funny!!

It doesn't scream the San Juans to me and I've spent a good amount of time there. I've never had the privilege of seeing that view from Telluride. Looks more the Tetons to me. Funny Stuff. Good catch!

It's happened before. The Chamber of Commerce will make the most of it.

Uh, yeah...that's definitely the north face of the Grand Teton. You can clearly see the Enclosure to the right (west) of the main summit! That's cool that the Grand Teton is now in Colorado. I won't have to drive as far to climb it now.

100% the Grand...

A company in Alberta did the same thing in reference to Banff... like they need to.
This is what happens when you DON'T hire a local firm.

Well considering the Tetons are known for their 'traveling', it seemed likely this was another sighting, but when the guy from the website insisted it was taken from the San Juans, I thought it might be prudent to ask other climbers.

I still have a Swiss chocolate bar wrapper with the Tetons on it, and I think I remember back in the 80's when I was living in Jackson that Utah got caught using the Tetons on their state travel brochure too.

The Grand sure gets around! Just wondering if it really does have a twin hiding out in the San Juans?

Yeah, a good set of Tetons gets lots of respect.

It's the Grand seen from the northwest. Like jfox said, you can see the Enclosure. You can also pick out the North Ridge route.

I am not so certain that this is the Grand Teton. If so, it has been heavily doctored. For one thing, how can the north ridge of the Grand and Enclosure be in sunlight in the winter? On the other hand, I can't think of anything near Telluride that looks even remotely like this. It certainly does bear a strong resemblance to the Grand, but what is going on to the right? I seem to recall a winter shot of the Grand from the north on this site but I can't seem to find it.

Here's a picture from the north from the same angle, but from much closer. I'm far from an expert of the Tetons, but I'm convinced that we have positive identification as far as the Grand is concerned.

You're right the left-hand skyline matches perfectly.

Yep, matches the East Ridge perfectly. Too funny.

Yeah, I'm in Telluride, and that isn't anything I see. I wish though. . .

Interesting, I see they just swapped out the photo. Maybe some other people emailed them about it. I had made a copy of it though, so will post it later today in case others want to see what all the hoopla's about. Thanks everyone else for weighing in!

Hold on there for just a second. If I'm looking at the correct picture, I think it may very well be in the San Juans. In fact, I think it may be Uncompaghre Peak. I don't see the described features such as the E. Ridge or the Enclosure.

I've seen Mt. Moran used to advertise the Colorado mountains, so it's not as if this kind of thing doesn't go on. I just don't think it is the case in the picture I'm looking at.

Maybe they are changing the picture, but it actually looks like lizard head on the left to me... with wilson on the right hand side.

They changed the picture. It is now lizard head et. al. Before it was the grand. Good to see somebody pulled their head out.

Definitely a new picture since last night, which is pretty funny by itself.

Agreed, the new photo was taken near Telluride. Could even have been taken from the ski area although it looks like an aerial shot.

It was either arial or taken from over near the Last Dolar Rd. To far north for a shot from the Ski Area. I personally liked the Grand Better
