Car broken into: Clear Creek Canyon, Anarchy Wall.

Just a heads up to you guys, I'm sure this is public knowledge that break in's happen in CCC...but I'm new to the area so I figured I would let you all know. My car was broken into yesterday, 9/19 at the Anarchy Wall. What blows is that I saw it happen...if you've been there, you can see your car from the cliff. Well I saw a car park opposite mine, and thought nothing of it...you know, just another couple coming climbing. Well, I turned back around, and saw a dude standing between the cars kind of suspiciously, well I then watched him for a second, only to see him throw his elbow through my window and grab something and then quickly drive away. I lowered my buddy and ran down...he had taken my broken ipod (i guess the jokes on him)...and that's it. Left all my gear in the back of the car and my good sunglasses, book of cd's, etc.

More annoyance than anything...having to deal with getting that shit replaced and cleaning broken glass out of the car.

So yeah, point is...I'll now leave nothing in the car...

I just leave my jeep or car open; preventing damage to the vehicle is better to me; course probably dealing with meth heads, they don't care about anything anyway.

Bummer man. People are scum. You've probably heard this already, but... don't leave anything that looks valuable in plain sight in your car.

Yeah...freaking sucks...got the window replaced today...insurance covered that thankfully. basically he got a broken ipod...and the serial number is in the report...so if he pawns it, it'll come up as stolen. i hope that happens. as for keeping the car open...i always did that in the RRG, but didn't even think about it here. Guess I'll think twice about that now.

only been here a week and a half...and other than that, I love it here. was supposed to go to rifle this weekend, but that obviously couldn't happen now. theres always next weekend.

Sorry to hear that man... I've lived in Boulder or nearby for 10 years, and have never had that experience. There were lots of posted break-ins in CCC last year however. I've never heard of problems in Boulder Canyon, (although I'm sure it's happened). Perhaps a short drive away from CCC might not be bad. It will be pretty cool when one of these guys gets caught in the act... (or shot in the act as proposed by many on this site)

I just didn't want someone new to the area to think that this is a front range norm. Climbing around here usually rocks...

that definitely sucks. me and some friends had an interesting thing happen at anarchy wall several weeks ago. these two guys pulled up in an suv and parked next to our cars. they then spent the next 10 minutes walking around our cars, acting all suspicious and shady. we were ready to run down there if need be, but they ended up leaving and waved at us as they drove off. don't know if they planned on taking anything, but the whole incident was super sketchy. you never know who's going through that canyon...

carry a rifle with a scope, it'll save you a lot of running up and down the hill...

That sucks man. I've heard the Front Range is full of liars & thieves.

You should head out to the western slope, where the only crimes are the prices of gas & real estate.

As far as I'm concerned this is the norm. This pretty much happened every weekend last winter in CCC when people were ice climbing and then tapered off when it got warmer. Living in North Carolina this NEVER happened to me, or anyone I knew whether it was in the city, or at any of the climbing areas. It's not to say that it hasn't happened. This was common back in the day at Roadside and Pocket Wall of the Red River Gorge.

Since I've moved here I've been broken into twice within 6 months. The first time at Morrison and the 2nd at the Westminster Park-n-Ride. Tevis, I'll agree that I haven't heard of anything at Boulder Canyon, but if we all start flocking there the bandits will wise up eventually.

Yeah, people (including myself) sometimes like to bash Boulder because of 'the way it is' I.e. full of liberals etc. But the truth is, There just isn't much crime here (except for the occasional Jon Benet case). It is a shame that there are so many $hi+heads around Golden I guess...

Anyway, Boulder canyon is already pretty crowded, so maybe we don't need more climbers (or thieves).

Thanks for the good words guys...yeah, it blows, but it is what it is. I'll still go to CC and still go to the Anarchy Wall...I'll just leave my car unlocked and nothing in it.

Hey Kirra! I'm back for good now...how's your fall shaping up? I'm heading to Indian Creek the 2nd week in October for I don't know how long....let me know if you're heading that way.

Kind of crazy watching your car get broken into though...makes me want to keep a semi-automatic in my pack at all times...I wonder if even having binoculars would allow you to see the tags?

I climbed in CCC for 7 years and never had a car broken into (and I used to borrow a lot of different cars from friends in college!). I heard about it every now and then, but never experienced it first hand. Must've just been lucky I guess (knock on wood), but I also never had anything anyone would've wanted to steal. I've also never heard of anyone getting their car broken into at Morrison. Pretty strange if you ask me.

I also borrowed a friend's car which was broken into during the summer of 91 at shelf road. Lost a bunch of gear to the rat bastard(s).

Back during the midnight showing of Batman-Dark Knight, the movie stopped and lights came on about 20 mins before end. The local police came in a made an announcement that several break-ins had taken place in the parking lot and for the "following people to come down to claim their belongings...". Yup, they caught the little furball. He keyed up and broke into over two dozen cars and stashed most of the loot in some nearby bushes. My friend lost/recovered an ipod which was the only thing in the dirtbag's possession so it was the only thing they could nail him with. You should have seen the cops faces when he went up and told them he lost an ipod. His jeep was unlocked so there were no signs of break-in and so he wasn't asked to come out, ID, etc. They were so happy to get something to nail him with. My buddy id'd the songs and background image on the ipod to a T and then the cuffs went on. One for the good guys.

Should have quartered his butt and totemed the pieces at each entrance to the mall.

Some sign options include:

Smile you are on Camera!

I have you between my crosshairs!

The police will arrive shortly, place your hands.....

Car is unlocked and contains no valuables

Watch out for Snipers!

I've been thinking of taping a card to my climbing rack that says "Three of my cams have been soaking in battery acid for a week. Do you know which three?"

Not that the thieves are likely climbers...

You might want to check your insurance policy before you leave your doors unlocked. Some insurance won't cover you if you don't lock the vehicle.
