I'm going to be on the Kenai Peninsular for the next 10 days. Is there any rock climbing around that area. I'll be in Seward, Homer, and Soldotna. Any info would be appreciated.

Check out this sight, and ask the same question. Should get a few responses from there. Probably not alot of established rock routes, but more alpine than you can do in a lifetime.

There is hatchers pass that has some sweet cracks, slab, and bouldering- which is north of where your going about 4-5 hours north of seward--1.5hrs n. of anchorage-- and its got alot of good sweet stuff.

Thanks for the responses. I don't think I can get anywhere north of Anchorage.

I've seen some photos of cool looking seaside cliffs. Anyone got any info on these? I imagine deep water soloing in alaska would be unpleasant so ones with land underneath would be preferable.

Keep the info coming.

Cheers!

For sure, there is plenty to climb, but none of it is developed in any way. The rock quality is not great, but sometimes you find some decent stuff. I doubt there are many known established routes south of Portage.

This may be one option:

I spent a Summer there and started to think that your time is best spent mountaneering or fishing (the silvers maybe running now?). Seward seemed to be better than Homer because of access, and don't even bother in Soldotna. There is also some cragging just south of Anchorage, but it may leave something to be desired if your used to cragging in the lower 48.

do you want to climb ice?

If so there be lots of that...

Matanuska N. of anchoragwa. and down around Seward some glacers around town? Not sure of the names, as it's been 8 years since I was there in Seward.

Oh yeah, some sport routes right on the highway heading south from Anch to Girdwood. As I recall they are in the road cut and the rock was both sharp and loose? again that was years ago and all and all I really just remember the rock climbs I did down there being loose and sharp(that seems strange but that's how I recall it)

Peace and have fun up there.

I saw that. Yeah, the rock looks great, but sorta loose and sharp.

Thanks for the info. We caught silvers today and just finished grilling one up... It's not to bad a place up here ;)

I'll checkout that other info when I get a better connection.

Cheers and thanks!

any suggestions for alpine around Seward? I'll be there tomorrow for 2 days. Something I can solo (i.e. easy)... 5.6 or below?

Thanks again for the info. Alaska is pretty freakin' awesome so far....

Dave-
Where was that photo taken? I'm moving to Anchorage and Jan, and I'll be looking for some rock next year.
