Does anyone know who makes Mad Rocks ropes? Someone I work with has a brand new 60M 9.8mm rope that he will sell me for $70.00 He said it's made by Beal. The rope feels real nice and I was thinking I should get it for that price. Opinions? Thoughts? Thanks, Robert

The specs of those ropes are identical to those of the Tendon Ambition 9.8 and 10.2. I think it's a sure bet they are made by Lanex/Tendon. That's kind of interesting, because Tendon's official distributor for the US is Metolius. (Metolius's Monster ropes are made by Lanex.)

Well for the money I went ahead a bought the rope. I will take it out and climb with it for the next few weeks and then write a review. But my first impressions are of a quality rope that knots well. This rope is also dry coated. For the money if it lasts a season i figure it was worth it.

I like mine. Super streachy feeling. Seems to be holding up well.

I wonder how many ropes are actually made by one manufacturer and labeled with different company's logos. I would bet more then we think.

I'm not an expert, and in particular, I have no inside knowledge. With this proviso, this is what I believe: - Cousin Trestec makes ropes for Millet and Petzl.
- Lanex makes ropes for Metolius.
- Mad Rock ropes are rebadged Tendon ropes.
- I heard rumors that the Edelweiss Performance is actually a Beal Joker in disguise.
- CAMP's ropes may be made by someone else, but it's just a hunch.
Maybe others can add to the list or correct it.

I've had a Mad Rock 9.8 dry rope for about a season now, mostly ice climbing on it and it's been super nice- Really dry and great handling...definitely the best deal on a rope that I've found in a very long time.

My first rope was a Beal and I liked it. I got it my the local climbing shop for a great price. The shop would get ropes from Beal at a discounted price (pot luck - you didn't get a choice of color, diameter, or length), but it was 60m 10.2 so it was an ideal all purpose rope. The one issue that I had was that it would occasionally get wadded into a rat's nest, but I'll willing to admit that could have been operator error ;-)

asked the sales guy and they are tendon ropes. climbed on it this weekend. the 9.8 is pretty sweet. almost no coiling issues. we'll see how it wears.
