BD Big Gun Harness

Super cozy. Light. lots of molded gear loops. Hammer sling.
Color coded double belay loops.Removable leg loops for the cozy bivy. What else could you want??
Compared to the yates this is far superior in my opinion. Its lighter. All buckles are like standard harnesses. I found the Yates to be a little confusing at first. Its a nice harness. Not too bad of a price either. THis thing will hold up for a LONG TIME!

I feel like an idiot... same person on both sites... oh well. haha

I have a friend that just got one, and it looks really nice. He will use it mainly for facilitating rappelling and high ropes though, not big wall.

I just got one...tried it at Suicide last weekend and really loved it! It's super comfortable!! Not sure about the double belay loop thing - it sounded like a neat idea but I didn't actually use the loops separately.

One item of note - the webbing seemed to be slipping ever so slightly through one of my leg loop buckles. Every morning I had to tighten it up again and I never had to do that with my old Misty Mtn harness.

I too just bought mine (2 days ago). Have not taken it out yet. But I did sit in a Metolus "Waldo" and compared it to this BD Big Gun. The Waldo was comfier for sure. This Big Gun is like a puffed up sport harness. The reason why I went with the Big Gun was the 7 gear loops, lighter, and easier to free climb in. I'd a chose the Waldo if I was setting routes in a gym, eternal belaying on a wall, or drilling a route. BUT because I solo on most big walls I climb, I'm not hanging around much. I also want to eliminate the desire to sit around, I'd rather Keep moving.

Have had the harness some months now.

Comfortable, supportive, not restrictive for free climbing, straps good. Easy to buckle/unbuckle

I ordered med size first, but the loops didn't center on my 32" waist (this is the middle of the size guideline- go figure) so I got size large, which I have to cinch up all the way, but the loops are centered. Also, don't get smaller size if you have thick legs.

Other gripe- leg loop fabric rubs loudly while walking.

Also more bulky than a standard harness to fit in a pack.

I used the old- Trango- harness recently, it was uncomfortable hanging.

John, any chance you purchased one? Is there a review coming? I am sure us here would love to read one of your awesome reviews, if you didn't get one let me know and we might work it out so you can review the one I am looking to purchase.

I agree. I like mine and its very comfortable. I'm a 34" and a large barely works. Its great for what its made for. And hey, free hammer holster...

yes, I purchased one and so far I like it a lot.

I'll probably do a review of it but not until October or so. Need to log some more time in it! Trip to Zion coming up very shortly so that should help.

BD Big Gun, haven't heard of it, but I like the harness I've had for several years, "Misty Mountain Cadillac" Great comfortable all day harness that will take alot of abuse.

I just wore my Big Gun harness for 3-1/2 days straight (up the Nose) and it definitely passed the comfort test. Super comfy!!! Had to sit at the same hanging belay for about 2 hours because of a slow party in front of us and it was great! No problems whatsoever except the leg loop webbing does still slip a little, and I needed to re-tighten them every morning. I love it!!!

The MM Cadillac is definitely my second favorite harness - that's what I use for all day trad climbing.

I'm torn between the Cadillac and the big gun mainly because the Cadillac has inverted gear loops which i don't have experience with.

I used my Cadillac for a bunch of walls before getting a big gun. I prefer the big gun now, much more comfy at hanging belays and way easier to unclip the elastic leg loop straps. The huge rear gear loop is nice for holding your random odd gear.

Very curious to know the Big Gun sizing for women. I’m 5.6 and 135lbs. Any similarly sized women wearing the small size? When you cinch the waist down, are you all the way down?

Im 5.9 137, male, 28” waist, and I’ve had issues with being in-between sizes. If I choose small, the gear loops end up inbalanced and the mediums just don’t cinch down enough. Having a single buckle is part of the problem. I went with a double buckle harness and I’m never going back.

Singing Rock Dome S/M fits me well and the double buckle allows me to center the belay loops properly. Has 7 gear loops, a haul loop, and double belay loops. The best feature though is that it has a detachable buckling system on the leg loops so you can sleep with just the waist, or change your pants if you really need to. Highly recommend.
