Me and everyone @ The Piper Companies in Arvada are sending our thoughts & prayers. One of my technicians told me this morning he was working @ St. Anthony's when Mike came rolling down the hall... Everyone at the company knows I climb Eldo frequently, so when things like this happen, I get a lot of people asking me questions... Keep strong and hang in there buddy, you have a lot of people caring and looking out for you...

Urgent information needed:
If you were a first responder, were first on the scene or saw Mike Hankins fall and impact 7/22/08 PLEASE CONTACT ME. This information is vital to the neurosurgeons. Mike is currently in a Level 1 coma and has been unresponsive to pain stimulus. Reports on this forum that Mike was conscious just after impact need to be confirmed and are of vast importance to his doctors.

All the love and thoughts that each of you have shared on this forum are being read to Mike and his family. They mean so much to all of us. Thank you.

I spoke with Randy yesterday and this is what I got from him.

This morning Mike was due to go into surgery to clean out the wounds around his face. As I was to understand later in the day he is to go back in for the same cleaning for his legs and arm in an effort to stave off infection.

His vitals are stabilizing with blood pressure perfect.

His pelvis was broken in three places and his right ankle, as viewed in the CAT scan showed that it's pretty much mush.

Also, his lungs have healed and have re-inflated.

I know that Tony, Mike's friend from OKlahoma is in Denver and perhaps he can give a better description of Mikes current state.

That's what I know today.

We appreciate all the updates on Mike's condition. Working with Mike for several years, we have all come to appreciate his professionalism and eagerness to help us in all situations. Mike is an extraordinary individual with many talents. I consider it a pleasure and privilege to be Mike's friend. Please let Mike and his family know we are praying for his recovery from this unfortunate accident. We have all included him on our prayer lists at our churches and several people are praying for his recovery. Please let Mike know how much we love him and miss him and look forward for his recovery. May God bless each of you at his bedside and give you strength and encouragement. We love you Mike...God Bless You!

This will be my final post for a while. I want to give the Hankins family some privacy and Mike some privacy. Obviously I love Mike Hankins. He is my regular dinner guest, he is about my only dinner guest (ha ha). He is my husbands best friend and climbing partner. Guys that climb @ a high end are special. Mike Hankins is special. Those who know...know just how special.

Tony said Mike's face is perfect. Everyone is so happy. He said he has seen bike race crashes that look worse...
I am so happy for all of them. His face is uncovered and other than a little swelling he looks like his old self.

He is just asleep.

I've talked to a lot of you on the phone and via email , and I want you to know that everyone (mostly the Hankins family, me, and tony) are soooo grateful for your support. Please we need each one of you. We need your prayers, we need your positive vibe...we just need it. And, we love you.

If you are going to be in the Denver area stop by and say hi at the hospital.

Love and peace.

Lori Mayse

A short update from Randy regarding Mike.

Yesterday Mike spent the better part of the morning and early afternoon in surgery getting wounds cleaned and cared for. Apparently this will continue every couple of days.

His face, as is now suspected, did not incur the types of damage associated with ground impact but more likely hitting the wall in the fall. Which is great news. Most scratches and one deeper cut but no broken teeth or cheek bones. His nose seemed to be effected the most.

His vital signs are strong and he is still in a coma

The support had been tremendous and certainly felt by Mike's family

Whew!! Such horrible news. . .
My thoughts and prayers go out to the injured climber and his family as well as Preston's family for their loss (RIP Preston).

Mike sounds like he's one tough guy and I'm glad to hear his condition is improving!

Hang in there Mike!!!

I'm from the East Coast, and I've never met Mike, I've been following this accident (as well as Preston's) like a hawk on MP and other sites, and I've been incredibly heartened that Mike's vital signs are strong - in this case, I guess, no news is good news.

I wish all of those who know and are close to Mike my sincerest sympathies - I can only imagine how difficult this time is for you. Mike is in my thoughts and I am desperately hoping that he pulls through and begins recovering soon.

I too have been following this story and Preston's, but don't know Preston or Mike. Sorry to all those who knew and loved Preston. He clearly left behind a strong legacy with all of the positive energy he brought to those posting here at the MP community. Mike, many wishes on your recovery! Good luck and keep fighting the good fight!
