But I dono Bob...I think the thread is showing more skin than shirt.

This is an interesting point. I don't believe the outrage was over a boob. The outrage was over the overt and gratuitous manipulation of the audience. The "wardrobe malfunction" was an insult to my intelligence. An obvious attempt to create controversy and publicity for the performers and the half time show. "Ooooh, what will they do NEXT year? I can't wait to see. I'll never channel surf during half time again." That's why people were annoyed by it.

For me, it's the same with the shirtless gym climbing. If I honestly believed that someone felt that it was so swelteringly hot in an air conditioned gym that a heat stroke was imminent but for the immediate removal of a thin short sleeved cotton garment, I would support the decision wholeheartedly. I want to save lives as much as the next person.

But removing your shirt in the gym is really about one thing and one thing only: exhibitionism for the purpose of calling attention to yourself. That is why I find it offensive.

Didn't your mamas ever teach you that "showing off" was rude?

He he...I think it's pretty clear that you just need to apply that statement to yourself.

NSFOD, we're all exhibitionists. When we get dressed we select clothing based on the image we are trying to portray and if we try not to wear a certain style, we are still trying to portray an image...

I say shirts off, be proud of what you've got whether you look like a body builder, a baby Buddha or a starving child.

Now that is a reasonable response to my argument. I agree with you completely on that point. But there is a difference, I think. Exhibitionism by clothing yourself in attractive fabrics, for instance, is an appeal to our more highly evolved aesthetic sense. Removing one's shirt tends to appeal more to our base instincts of sexuality or mate selection/competition or just a simple, primitive need for someone to pay attention to us and validate our existence.

It's a shade of gray, and it's just my opinion, based on how I view the world.

You seem to get offended by things easily.

Please don't misconstrue that into an offensive statement.

I've always liked crystalpinchinsloperslapper, but it might be a bit long and non-descriptive.
