Just looking for some beta on the tyrolean. Is it below the SOB gully or the Cruise gully? Is it high enough above the water to be viable during peak runoff? I'm thinking of doing the Flakes from the North Rim.

Last I heard, the tyrolean was not in place right now. Check with the climbing rangers to find out for sure.

Things may have changed--I haven't been there in over a year--but the tyrolean had always been below the Cruise gully in the past, where it provides direct access to Astrodog and the Flakes. I've hopped across on rocks from the SOB and do not recommend this-in addition to being dangerous, you still have to do several hundred feet of traversing the south bank, at 5.7 or so to get to Astrodog.

There's a recent TR over on supertopo which stated that the tyrolean was not in place

By the way its a great TR.

Just to follow-up. We climbed the flakes route from the south side since the tyrolean isn't in place. A fun route for the first half. I wonder how you escape if you are injured? Thanks for the beta fellas.

....and the second half??

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
