This picture just brought me back thirty years. I remember that routine well. That guy is probably belaying from the top of Recompense or The Prow. Great stuff.
my preferred method is acting surprised that there are people up there, asking them "How did all of YOU get up here?...there's a road? Dammit...I knew i should have done more research..."

so i experienced this yesterday and it was quite comical lol :) one lady blurts out " OMG! does your mother know what your doing!?" to which i replied "yup she asked me to take pictures:)" but so far the best reaction ive heard of is my friend got to the top and the people thought they'd been climbing for days and offered them food and water lol :) :) when we got to the top though a nice couple offered us a drive down and i hadn't realized there was a ROAD that went to the top... i always thought it was a trail...lol so i was like.... wait.... you can drive up here!?
Hey!! That's my wife Kerin carrying my youngest daughter "Lizzy" with the pigtails and my oldest daughter Emma in the yellow in the lower right hand corner. We finished up the Book that day and were topping out over on the right and were catching a ride back with them. Too funny!!!
Read Selected Climbs in the Northeast, where S. Peter Lewis describes making a big show for the tourists by building a grappling hook and acting all heroic with it at the fence.
