My last topic about radios caused some tension in the forum today so i thought i would put up something a little less loaded. IS ANYONE ELSE GETTING EATEN BY TICKS IN BCC??? And REALLY whats the best way to get them out. (tried burning-didnt work)

They are out in LCC also.

Don't burn them or cover them in petroleum jelly to get them out because that will cause them to puke out the blood they've already sucked, which significantly increases chances for infection.

AFAIK, the best way is to grasp them by the head with a pair of tweezers and pull firmly but gently until they let go. I've heard it helps to rotate the tweezers slightly as you do so, which is probably what I should have done last time one got attached as it came off with a bit of my skin still attached to it.

Oh, and stick it in some alcohol and save it if you are worried about getting sick from it.

It is a good thing if a bit of skin is still attached to the tick when you pull it out. It means that the head is still attached to the tick and not left in your skin.

Yeah, I wasn't complaining about the attached skin at the time! The little bastard was still crawling around looking for a new meal after he got pulled off too. I figured why not let him die happy, so I stuck him in a shot glass full of vodka.

Please tell me that afterwards, you took the shot. I would buy you a beer if that were the case.

John,
I really admire the fact that you took time out of your day to PM me
"your a douche"

That made my day.How many people actually do that. Just kids that are 20 I guess. It is funny how you asked for feedback and when you get it you tuck your tail and run. Sinking to the level of childish myspace IM's and insults rather then standing on your own two legs in front of the community. Judging by the fact you removed your OP and the forum title you are in fact are the douche on this one and I am sure you'll catch it in the ass from another climber or tick sooner or later.

Those fuckers. best way already written tweezers and pull gently till they let go then wash the area and hands to lower chances of infection. Those @$#!%&@ ticks!!!!

Damn man, I should have! Next time... only maybe with tequila or whisky since I don't like vodka. I guess you can't call yourself a hardman until you've slammed a shot with a tick in it.

You know what's funny, last season in the Wasatch I didn't see a single tick, but now I've already seen several, and had that one attach itself to me and my friend got another one too. Maybe I was just lucky last season, or maybe there are a lot this year.

I'm with ya, I didn't see many at all last year, but this year a buddy of mine has already had to take one off as well. Crappy. Guess now is the time to stick to more traveled areas and stay away from bushwhacking. Oops.... too late.
