Update on the Aaron Mulkey story....

Hi

I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct place.

Long story short I got in contact with this guy through Ebay, and after several emails back and forth I ended up buying gear from him for about $3000. (Ice gear primarily, + packs, bags etc) This was in October, and I still haven't received everything I ordered. (it took 1 1/2 months to receive the first items) I'm missing stuff for close to $1000.
It is getting very frustrating since Aaron no longer replies to my messages (I've even tried the Ebay channel) Last time I heard anything from him was 3 weeks ago, then he told me that it all shipped early December which of course cannot be true because I would have had it by now.

My question is does anybody know this guy? Has anybody purchased anything from this guy's website? I'm getting so pissed off that I might buy an airline ticket from Norway to WY to knock on his door and ask where the rest of the stuff I ordered is...

This is his address anyways:

Aaron Mulkey
"Wyomings Adventure Outfitter"
Core Mountain Sports
1019 15th street
Cody, Wy 82414

If anybody has any info on this guy I appreciate it

EDIT

Well guess what. Aaron just emailed me.

All my previous emails had ended up in his junk mail, and he was not aware that I had not received the last shipment.

He is now filing an insurance claim.

He is offering me a refund, or to ship it all again.

So my post here at MP worked. Thanks to those of you who let Aaron know about this thread. Because of you he replied to me...

This is my last post on this thread.

For some reason, this doesn't quite sound right. I don't know Aaron, but have talked with him on the phone before and he comes off as a nice guy. He is a well known climber in the Cody area (half of the Winter Dance guide book photos for Cody feature him). He also maintains the Cody conditions page.

Why don't you just call and talk to him?

It strikes me as a little odd that anyone buys $3000 of climbing gear in a single sitting, complains, then doesn't post their real name here. Hopefully this is not an effort to rub someones name in the dirt for personal reasons.

You probably got hosed by some one. I've had numerous "people" try and get in touch with me on e-mail about some thing I've put a bid in on e-bay and I always report them to e-bay's fraud department.

Aaron and all the guys in Cody are straight up.......

You got F***ed by the internet.....

Okay, let me give you some dates and "some names":

Initial contact with Aaron early october.
He shipped my stuff around Oct 20th (Aarons word)
The package arrived Nov 21, but several items was missing.
Another package arrived just before christmas (cant remember the exact date) Again only part of what I ordered arrived. (This time I got a pair of La Sportiva Nepal Evo GTX boots)
After 5-6 emails to Aaron early January he replied it all shipped Dec 13th. I have not received anything after the boots, and I am still missing 1 Arcteryx Acrux 40, 1 Arcteryx Silo 50, 1 Arcteryx V10 bag, ice clipper, crampon bag.
So today is Feb 4th.
After 3 and a half months is it resonable to agree that I should have received what I purchased.
There is no problem with his or my internet connection or email account.

Thanks for replying to this thread.
I do not want to hurt this guy in anyway, and I'm sure he's a nice guy, (thats why I took the risk and ordered stuff for $3000) but rather put some pressure on him so that I receive what I ordered.

PS Aaron if you read this, please send my stuff and I'll be glad to remove these threads........

Call the shop.
Aaron runs the show there. If he no longer works or owns it then I would say you got hosed. I find it strange that you have all of his shop info but yet you have waited 3 months waiting on email contact. If I dropped 3 G's on gear I would not wait one week before I picked up the phone. Maybe he has been traveling? Out of the office. who knows. Email sucks!

Good luck

Yes. I have purchased approx 120 items on Ebay, and never had a problem like this....

Were there packing slips in the packages you received? You should be able to deduct each item on the packing list from the invoice or ebay list. Most good businesses provide a packing list in their shipments. It would at least be a paper trail to stop all the finger pointing. I've met Aaron and though personally I think we'd never be friends (I wanted to put that as nicely as possible) he seems to run a decent business and I've been in his store. It's clean and organized and I don't think he would try and rip anybody off.

this seems like a perfect example of why making large purchases on ebay is a bad idea.

I have done plenty of work on ebay and unless you made some sort of off auction deal via email then there is not alot that can happen to very openly and publicy rip people off as you are assuming what happened.
Tony makes a great point. CUSTOMS can take a while. Unless you decided to rack up the gear charges after a single auction ended then there is really no way for him to formally rip you off. Especially seeing as he has hundreds of auctions currently running.

I still find it hard to believe a post like this can come about with out a call to the shop. Seems strange.

Lets see the auction item numbers :)
3G's is alot to rack up in a few auctions judging off the list you posted.
I have worked with Aaron and his shop for a couple years now and have found no reason to dub him unreliable or shady.

This post is what may be shady :)

My post is "Shady"???
That is fairly rude to suggest, if you ask me... I'm the one who has not received what I purchased three and a half months ago!

Thing is he did not have half the stuff that I wanted listed on Ebay, so I asked him if he could get me the stuff that he did not have. He could, and all items was purchased directly from him and not via Ebay. I only got in contact with him through Ebay, and of course I was reluctant to deal directly with him and not via Ebay, but he seemed like no scam which he probably isn't.

Customs in Norway takes on average 1-2 days. (Always)

I take your point: I will call him tomorrow.

This is what i bought (cut from email conversation with Aaron)

2 x Petzl Quarks (1 Adze, 1 Hammer)
10 x Grivel 360 Ice screws (2 x 12cm, 5 x 17cm, 3 x 22cm)
1 x Black Diamond Cyborgs with ABS
1 x La Sportiva Nepal Evo GTX size 42 EURO
1 x Arc Teryx Acrux 40L Color Gold Rush
1 x Arc Teryx V10 Duffel bag
1 x BD Gaiter Color Black, size Medium
1 x BD Punisher Glove Color Black size Medium
1 x Cascade ice pick for Quark
2 x Black Diamond Ice Clippers
1 x Black Diamond Firstlight tent
1 x Ground Cloth for BD Firstlight

The only option I can think of is that the package has arrived in Norway without my knowledge (the postoffice sends out 3 notifications for me to pick it up before it is returned to the shipper) So I doubt that has happened...

Check his Ebay feedback. 99,2% positive. All negative feedback is due to very late arriving items, poor communication or items not arriving at all...

please report your progress after the phone call. I do not know this guy or ever dealt with him. As a consumer I would have called a long time ago (I am also a high strung inpatient New Yorker). On the other side of it, he should have updated you on what shipped and when.

my 2Cents.

UPDATE:

After getting Aarons attention in February by posting in this forum he promised me what I was missing.
Long story short, nothing showed up in my mailbox and a lot of promises was sent from Aaron to me with assurance that I would get my stuff. This is now 3 months ago. I still haven't received anything. The last time I heard from him was April 17th. He then promised me that I would have the $1000 he owes me on my Paypal account the next day. After that no contact whatsoever and of course no money on my account. I've even tried calling him the last 3 days, but no luck with that.
Again, if you know him, please contact him and tell him that I'm still waiting for the refund!

Who would seriously sell something and not be able to provide it within 7 months of purchase. I'm getting really sick of this...

Thats a bummer.
You should just drive to his shop and square up. This is a very strange business practice for sure.

Bottom line is you ordered the goods and they were not delivered. It is your job to make the order and provide the money. It is the sellers job to fill the order and make sure you get the goods.

SAL · · broomdigiddy · Joined Mar 2007 · Points: 790

On a side note. I have not heard from Aaron or his company in a long long time. I am not sure if the business is even running anymore. Last I heard from him/his company was november of last year.
Hope you get your goods or your cash soon.
