Resist the temptation to turn up too early to approach the blood wall. Most other approaches result in 5th class moves over less than ideal rock.

If it was easy it would be called the 5th pullout.

bro, that is a great photo to post on the cactus tower descent page, it suddenly makes so much sense after doing it in the dark and seeing this picture... my notes said to just keep walking and keep angling right...

At the red arrow, leave the ridgeline and follow cairns heading down west eventually into the gully. It is possible to move into the gully sooner but you will need to navigate several small 4th class sections.
