On the first ascent of Mt. Clarence King's NE Ridge (first attempt). That day we retreated shortly after taking this photo, and spent four hours descending a loose and treacherous face to get back to our camp. We came back two weeks later and finished the job. On our second and final attempt, it took us another 7-8 hours of highly exposed and exhilarating climbing to reach the summit from this point.

To put the distances in context, there is close to a mile between the camera and the mountain top. The ridge drops off about 400-500 vertical feet on each side.
